Do you have a hard time getting the right eye relief?  I have almost the same setup(5.5-22X56) and find it hard/unnatural.  I need to find a way to mount it about 1.5 inches farther forward.

You could use the LaRue SPR EE (extended eye-releif) mount, maybe...although that might be too much.  Also you could try thr regular SPR mount, that is what I am using with the big Nikon and it is perfect.

I've got the 24" Varminter and I replaced the FF tube with a YHM FF rail instead.  I tried mounting my  NXS 5.5-22x56 in an Armalite 1 piece mount to move the scope a little forward for better eye relief, but that big ass 56mm bell still butted up against the rail.  I just added a riser rail and then remounted the Armalite mount and scope.  Works like a charm.

I've got it pretty good for me, but you are right, in that I would be happier a little further forward.  The cheekweld is not as solid and natural as on some of my other rifles.  I've got another pair of rings (slightly lower since it's the 50mm objective) and longer risers that Ned at Mounting Solution Plus suggested, but they are not on yet.  They are going on for trial at the end of the month, I'll let you know the details and range report when I try them.

JP Enterprises CTR-02 Varminter

1:9 Twist 24" Heavy Barrel
3-3.5lb trigger (if it is over 2.5lbs I'll kiss your ass)
Tactical Operating System
Bench Rest Stock
JP Brake
Presentation Grade Silver & Black Finish

Topped it off with a pair of TPS rings, as beefy as Badger's but almost half the price, and a Leupy 8.5-25X50 LRT.

Initial groups from the 30 rounds I've fired have been one hole at 50 yards, weather and a lack of time have severely limited my range sessions but next week I will have plenty of time to test her out.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, it has been sitting in the safe while I've been out of state for work, getting ready to buy a house in Florida and move.  With any luck I'll have some time this week to get to the range and finish wringing it out.

My latest:

RRA/Wilson HEAVY (15/16-.936" 1-8) barreled carbine upper built by the NEW American Spirit Arms on an ASA lower.
YHM 4rail FF tube and Phantom w/ARMS 40L rear and ASA flip up front BUIS under a 10X42SS in Leupy QRW's on an YHM 7" rail.
Harris bipod on a YHM bipod adapter.

Still haven't had a chance to shoot it.

As close as I get.  Armalite A4, w/ Alexander free float tube, IOR 4x24 M2 CQB in Warne rings.

Works for what I use it for.  About a 3/4 minute gun w/ fed 69 grainers.

Nice rifles! We'd love some information on who built them (I assume they are not authentic HK, but I've been wrong before!), how long it took to obtain parts and the build time, and a ballpark price tag.

What kind of groups do you get with those? Those are super nice!!!

Still a work in progress

Bushmaster Lower
DPMS 20 inch Chrome Lined HB upper W/ T markings, 1:9 twist
YHM rifle length 4 rail free float tube
YHM 4 rail gas block
YHM bipod adapter
Harris 9-13" bipod
Burris Xtreme Tactical Rings (high)
Burris Xtreme Tactical Rifle Scope in 3-12X50
Flip front sight

Also waiting on Vortex flash hider and the rifle length ACE ARFX stock

This thing is pretty sweet now, but when the rest of the stuff I ordered gets here and gets installed it's gonna rock.

I dunno if this counts as "precision" or not, but at 200 meters....

Seems pretty precise to me.

Edited to add:  Upper built by JTAC supply.  16" Kreiger 1/7 twist barrel, roughly SPR contour,
LaRue forend, Nightforce 2.5-10 with NP-R2 reticle in LaRue SPR mount, Blackhills Mk262 ammo...  She shoots better than I do!

What do you guys think about the DPMS / Panther Arms, LR .308?

Based on what I am finding, there isn't a more accurate rifle availible over the counter... even considering bolt guns.

What is the rifle capable of shooting for MOA?
Link Posted: 10/13/2005 1:31:38 AM EDT
[Last Edit: Thumper_Three0Eight] [#43]
I have noticed consistent MOA w/wolf 62grn... never tried the good stuff because the rifle is chambered for a mil-spec 5.56. I would get a DPMS varmint barrel, and I have shot some Clark gator’s (both in .223) if I wanted to have one for super-small groups. This was done on a budget, and I can shoot almost as tight a group rapidly as I can take time between shots. It rings the steel out to 415 yards pretty well at the Hill Country rifle range here, and it does it every time I pull the trigger, no matter what. I love this gun; I wish I had 2 of them.

The SWFA 16x42Ss is VERY UNDER-APPRECIATED as well!!!
