I would like to know if Ishould continue my painful search for a used McMillan or go with a bell and carlson? And is bell and carlson decent?

I have a B&C medalist and it is a fine stock. A tad heavy but not terrible.

If you decide on the B&C, I'd look at the M40 stock.  The others were too bulky for me, especially for a 20" barrel.

Bell and Carlson makes a good stock.

The Bell and Carlson Medalist is nicely proportioned if you're looking for a practical, portable stock.  It uses an aluminum frame and bedding block which gives it great stiffness along the length of the stock. .

Well the BC I was looking at was particularly the varmint /tactical and have no idea if i want the solid srock or the adust able one.

The factory hogue stock feels small on me since I have a somewhat large build. And it just feels cheap and flimsy.

That hogue stock needs to be gone lol

I'm quite pleased with my B&C M40:

I would look on Snipershide for a used Manners or McM.

Hmm just out of curiosity what makes the regular m40 stock better than the varmint tactical? And or why does everyone seem to prefer it over other ones

That's what I thought too.  Took me a bit to see the barrel.

What sort of texture do the m40 stocks have?

McMillan is in a different league than B&C.  Sure a B&C could serve just fine, but comparing the two would be like comparing a Nissan 350z and a Porsche 911.  Save some more coin and get a new McM or Manners.

I would wait for a McMillan but I could be biased.

What McMillan stock is the one on the left?

A5 34% Tan 33% OD 33% Black.

A3 50% Red 25% Black 25% White

Also I like the color of your A5

That seem like a decent deal?

Yeah I was over $700 with pillars and a limbsaver pad for both of mine.

OK I have a couple of dumb questions for you.
What the hell is a limbsaver?
And if it comes from McMillan with the pillars installed can I drop my action and everything in myself?

BTW this is my first bolt action rifle.

They give you the option of a limbsaver recoil pad or a pachmayr pad. The limbsaver is an upgrade.

Yes you should be able to drop it right in and go shoot.

Rough enough to give you a good grip but not so rough they take the skin off the side of your face.

Same thing as the A3? And I like the price

The forend is more round where as the A3 is more squared but both are very similar.

However for me the drawback to the McMillans is they are on the light side, I tend to like my rifle heavy.
