So I found one of these for a good price figured the barreled action was worth the less than $500. It came with a cheap scope and bipod. Probably keep the bipod.

Plans of now are a magpul hunter and probably 10x supersniper. Might do the trigger too but I will keep every body informed.

Should be interesting...

SA? LA? What do you plan on doing with it?

Good luck OP everyone starts somewhere. Have fun shooting the barrel out before you swap to the heart of the new build. I would skip the Magpul stock and either start at the low end with a B&C medalist or go on up to the Manners. My 0.02C worth. The Magpul is alright but it's not quite as rigid as I like.

This will be a .308,
Main use would be target steel and paper with the majority being at 100, with diminishing opurtuinty as the range increases longest shots being 600-800.

Maybe take a whitetail/ called coyote.

Plan on dusting off the scales/press for this one, should I try only sizing the neck? The other rifle I’ve reloaded precision for was a semi so it got full length.

That's sort of like the project I just began except my starting point is a savage 110 in 30-06. I have a super sniper 12x to put on it but I have a 2 piece mount on the rifle and I am having a bitch of a time getting the rings to line up right. Good luck with your build and I hope it goes smooth for you.

I'm finishing off my present project shortly - converting an early 80's BDL Varmint into a VN era M40 look-a-like; just need to get the action clip slotted & the barrel channel on the 60's sporter stock opened up.

If (when?) I do another 700 SA build, I fancy trying to make an XM3 style rifle.
One of THE good things about the platform, there are a good number of variants out there to look to for inspiration

Have fun & post pics of the results!

So guys, looking at the krg bravo, after bottom” metal” this seems like a good value? I’ve only handled the magpul, would it be worth the extra $50 bucks or so?

Keep in mind this is an adl, so a selling point is the dbm. Both are aics mags correct?

Yes, both take AICS mags.  I'd personally prefer the bravo because I like the ergonomics better, particularly the vertical grip.

So I took the new to me rifle out yesterday,  20 rounds 168 gr.  Fed gmm. Printed a couple real nice groups at 100 but it was inconsistent, the glass sucks but is mounted solidly.
I’m torn as to what to replace first the glass or stock?

The vtr stock ,,,, I kinda like the design but it doesn’t fit me at all no cheekweld, with a cheekweld im looking throug the bases  but .....

Anyway what’s first stock or glass,

Stock then glass then barrel.

Glass, stock, barrel. I have the SPS Varmint stock and with a consistent position, I can get <1 inch at 100 yards with 168 GMM.
Lets see the rifle!

Ok small update, went with the magpul, complete with dbm, and krg pull. and swapped the cheap bipod for a Harris I had lying around, glass is next,

I’m floored how much difference the stock makes, way more shootable, put 20 cheap m80 rounds down today, and while it wasn’t on paper it was shooting well at a rough 300.

I know it’s been a while but I got distracted by the glut of dirt cheap ar pistol kits at psa, if anyone wants to help me with pics I’ll message or email to ya,

Hey, I see you are also in Kansas. I'm kind of in the same boat. Traded for a 700 adl 223. It already has an aftermarket barrel. The wood stock has been pillared and bedded. The bedding job needs redone but I'd rather have a wide forearm for a rest. Looked at the magpul. Not sure what direction I'm going.

Krg bravo would be a good one to consider

I'm doing a budget 700 adl build too.  A buddy that shoots PRS swapped all his XLR chassis to MPA and blew out the XLRs cheap so I bought one and then found an unfired adl with a Timney trigger cheap.  Another PRS shooter friend won a Nikon FX1000 Black 4-14 and made me a deal on it.  I'm now just waiting on rings from Optics Planet.  I should have a pretty decent chassis rifle with a good trigger and optic for about the price of most off the shelf chassis rifles.

Ok so newest update,

The rifle is nearing completion ,
Rem 700 all tactical, magpul hunter 700 with dbm, vortex diamondback tactical ffp in 6-24 moa flavor. In Burris tac rings.

So it’s a beast, under moa so far (just, .75 to just under at 100, with fgmm 175)

Trigger is next, like the trigger tec, but no over travel talk has me thinking maybe something else...

Probably gonna shoot it as is for a while.
If someone wants to host for me I’ll send pics later

So finally ponied up for a range membership at the closest range that goes past 300, and was able to make consistent hits out to 500 on a steel coyote,

Realized that without a spotter and or a break I was wasting ammo, would lose the target under recoil.

Probably gonna put a fixed stock on my recce ish ar.o don’t like the feel of the shitty collapsable I had on it. An a2 works and feels better.

Hey small world I'm in Kansas to Wyandotte area by the state line I've been doing the same to my 700. Mine is in .243 sorry if its a insult to the .308 guys I'm a small guy with a bad shoulder. I got the same set up pretty much just with a vortex crossfire 2 on it all I need is a better trigger, and somewhere to shoot it I was going to Paola to shoot but the owner of the property passed away in July unexpectedly. We need to get together and compare notes sometime if possible. Been laid off for three months now and I have cabin fever bad. I would post a photo of mine but I really have no idea on how to do it computers and I don't get along all that well.

.243 is a great cartridge, capable of great distance..
Factory bbls rarely have a fast enough twist for the heavy bullets is the only problem,

Funny, I just bought one of these 308 ADL Tactical from Dicks Sporting Goods for 399.98$ to replace my Savage that broken right now for deer season. Dick's is sitting on a bunch of them in 308, 6.5 Creedmoor and 22-250 and is blowing them out and the rest of there inventory for cheap.

I dumped the Huge stock for a KRG Bravo, replaced the trigger with a Trigger Tech, and put a 419 break on it. It shoots 175's and 178's half MOA at 100 yards.

Rifle below started out as a Remington 700 ADL varmint in 308. Paid 270$ for it at cabelas on sale with some coupons. I think this is a good plan for people getting started in long range. I put a rod base on this gun and put it in a Grayboe renegade stock and basically taught myself how to shoot long range with it over the course of a couple years. It would shoot .75-1 MOA with factory and hand loads. Get a new stock for it and some nice glass and just go shoot the crap out of it.
