I was checking out Benelli's new 3-gun edition of their M2 shotgun and have to admit, it looks pretty BA but at an  MSRP of $2699, it seems very over priced too?

It looks like they took a standard field grade M2 with a 21 barrel (MSRP of $1359) and added an extended mag tube/barrel clamp, some other extended controls and then did some tuning on the ejection port, loading gate, etc.. Considering the 3-gun edition cost $1340 more then the standard M2, it seems to me you could just buy the standard model and have all the same mods done to it for a lot less then the $1340 premium of the "custom shop" edition?

Am I missing something?

Just that the folks who are willing to pay that much, do so of their own free choice.

If that price does not sell, then they lower it, or stop making that gun.

No I get that and I know some collectors will go gaga over a special edition "factory custom" gun. The thing is, this gun is supposed to be aimed at the 3-gun crowd and for the most part, these guys are looking for quality and practicality. Whatever added intrinsic value this special edition may for being a "factory custom" would be lost I'd think after a few seasons of 3-gunning.

I just think if you wanted to target a specific audience then you would make a special edition for that would appeal to the audience at a price that was less then what the average person could build the same gun for? If not that then give them something special that they can't just buy or modify themselves but this shotgun seems to have neither of those qualities?

Oh well, just thinking out loud

Who cares if it's factory custom when I can purchase the basic model and pay a gunsmith to do the same mods and pay less money than the 3G model. This gun is ment to shoot not sit on the wall of someone who is a collector. This is my love / hate relationship with Benelli...

It's not a true factory custom.  The gunsmithing work is farmed out to a well known 3-Gun smith.

At least with the Factory Benelli 3 Gun Model that is forthcoming, you can get a warranty attached to it. Which I think is a nice benefit, for what its worth. Not sure how all Gunsmiths handle warranty work, I imagine it varies from smith to smith.

Benelli's don't need a warranty!

Since the Mayor of 3 Gun has spoken, it must be so!

I agree, and that is why I said, "for what it's worth!"

He gets to be mayor over here too??

I think that benelli will sell as many as they make, but I think theyl go to mostly mom and pop gunstores where theyll get snapped up by the rich gun guy in town who has to get the best everything.

and yeah, what the mayor said, all benelli's waterfowl customs are farmed out to shotgun smiths as well.

You should have had the guy to your left turn for the photo.  It would be like having you picture taken w/ R. Lee Ermey, but more of a legend, and also a little more grizzled.
