Anything you can hang a ring on counts as a point. Except drop tines, the ring falls off, so that is MINUS 1.

Boone & Crockett, Pope & Young, and SCI all go with 1 inch minimum to be counted as a point. Anything less than that is "character". But most I know use the "ring" method.

I watched a show where Ted Nugent shot a buck that had a little inkling of a point starting. He said, "If Ray Charles can feel it, I count it."
It has to exceed 1" before I count it. |

If you want to break down that 1" measurement further....For measuring purposes, the 1" point can't be wider than 1" at the base .
"To be counted a point, the projection must be at least one inch long, with the length exceeding width at one inch or more of length. All points measured from tip of point to nearest edge of beam as illustrated in Figure A. " If anyone needs help finding your local Measurer, both BnC and PnY have a list on their sites.
