They will both do the same thing. I'd get a box of each (or just the cheaper one) and see how they shoot in your rifle. If it's acceptably accurate (likely), then it will kill a deer just fine.

We were using some of the Remington CL ammo on deer and having real shitty luck with it. Went back to Winchester Positive Expansion Point and SP and had alot better luck with them. Seemed the Remington was not expanding in the deer at all. We were using them in 25-06 and 270.

I use the remy CL in my .270 and it has done just fine. Every deer I have shot this year (4) has dropped in its tracks except for a 170 pound buck that made it 40 yards. Ranges were all about 50 to 75 yards, shot placement broadside right behind/though the shoulder. But then again I have never tried the federal... so ymmv

So far all CL ammunition used on thin skinned animals have worked as advertised.
30-06; ranges from 20 feet -240yds Shot placement is worth much more than terminal performance of the round, but so far every recovered bullet has expanded properly. Never have used the Federals on an animal as they do not shoot as accuratly out of my M77 as the remingtons...not to say that they wont out of yours though. I would imagine bullet construction between the two rounds is fairly similar although i dont know for sure. |

I pretty much use 150 gr CL out of my .270 exclusively. All of my last 16 deer but one have been one shot stops. I take heart/lung shots only, never had one run far, no more that 75 yards, usually far less.

The CL does an excellent job. I use 100 gr. for my 243. It has good accuracy for hunting ammo. My son in law uses it in his 300 win. mag. with no complaints. It is been good ammo. We have taken deer,hogs,and coyote with it.

My brother is sold on the .30-6 165 Core-Lokt. Three deer and some dozen or so hogs, and it has performed exactly like they were supposed to every time. The one deer I shot with them was so impressed that he fell in his tracks at 45 yards.
Not bad for the cheapest commercially available hunting bullet around. |

Used some CL's in 7mm 08 this season. Holy crap! Both dear I shot were dead on impact! One was a 170 yard shot broadside and was toast. The other was just under 75 yards and again, done. The one shot at 75 was right in the sweat spot behind the shoulder. Blew out both lungs and even disconnected the wind pipe, so there was nothing to cut! Don't ask me how that happened. Both had an exit wound the size of a golf ball in the rib cage.

Both types of bullets are of standard cup-and-core construction. The Core-Lokt may theoretically be a little bit tougher, but the difference is probably not even consequential. I would pick the most accurate one and go from there.

Ive never had a deer hit with a winchester positive expansion take more than a step. Using 90 grain 25-06 the exit hole is about the size of a half dollar. The Core lokt on the other hand suck ass, the deer always run 50-100 yards. The Core Lokt leave a exit wound about .26 caliber. Never tried the federals. Now core lokt out of a 300 gives the half dollar exit wound but the 25-06 and 270 just doesnt expand enough.

I use the Federal Power-Shok in a .270 and .243 and I cannot complain about the results. The last animal I shot was a 35-40 pound feral hog. I shot this pig with a .243 100gr soft point and the left shoulder was destroyed to the point of not getting any usable meat from that shoulder. I could not find an exit wound. The last deer I shot with the .270 was at 125 yards and the exit hole was about a half dollar size. I use the 130 gr for the .270. Both animals dropped where they were hit.

both are cup and core bullets. They are as alike as two peas in a pod. Both will kill Whitetails dead. Quickly.

The only other differentiating factor could be the ballistic coefficient of the bullets. If there was a noticeable difference, that might would be worth considering.

I managed to recover a 300 win mag CorLokt I used one year, in my opinion the expansion was nothing to write home about but the weight retention was solid. This year switch to a 7mm-08 using Fed Prem. Nosler partion ballistic tips. Shot 2 deer in the neck on at 50 yrs and one at 110yrds both made about a 2'' exit hole after hitting the neck bone. I know that's really not a fair review since the CL shot was to the vitals. Oh and that shot took about a 3rd of the heart out and the deer still managed to run 50yrds up the mountain. Just goes to show that using a cannon doesn't always guarantee you a drop on the spot.

I have had great success with both on deer. The CL I have found is MUCH better on big hogs ,so I go with it all the way around. The CL does better on smashing bone and still penetrating on the 250 lb+ boars.

I use 150gr. Core-Lokts in a .270 Encore. I shot 2 bucks this year at about 75 yds. Both of them were clean pass throughs and both dropped in their tracks. I think they both were dead before they hit the ground, neither one kicked or made any movement.
