My first voice HF contact was actually really cool.  I'd have to go back and look at logs to see what band.


The guy was in California and - when i mentioned it was my first HF voice contact - was super nice and chatted for a bit.  Even sent me a physical contact card.


ETA:  It really changed my perspective re actually talking to people.  Before then i had been exclusively digital modes.

I wonder if my first HF contact was the same guy in California. I didn't get a card though.  He said he doesn't do QSL cards anymore, but I don't mind.

40m CW in the Novice band sometime February 1984.  Radio was a Heathkit HW-9 that I built with a 40m dipole, running 5 watts.  I still have that radio too.

My first contact was sometime in 1995 from my car on a hill top in South East Idaho. First contact was on 15 meters novice band, slow CW to a man in Rochester, NY.
He was a very patient individual.
