It isn't in the iPad range by any means. However it you compare it to a laptop with comparable specs I think it is competitive. A surface 4 is around $1600 and is missing a 4g modem and GPS. The surface also doesn't have 2 onboard USB 3.0 ports nor is it rated for shock, dust, vibration.

It is more targeted at oil field and military customers and not consumers.

How can we start comparison shopping if it's not on Amazon?

It is dual booted with Debian and runs gnuradio very well

As much as I oppose windows, you can not beat SDR#. I can live without HRD or JTalert, they are both nice but I don't need them. SDR# on the other hand has no equal on linux, also along that line is Unitrunker.

Have you tried GQRX?   It's not as good as SDR# but also very clean and simple.   Started playing with it on my Mint Box.

How well does SDR# runs in a Windows-emulated environment in Linux?

Nevertheless, I also have a tablet running Win 8.1 and also started doing some experiments with it.

ETA: read today about Linrad.  Neat UI but it seems a bit cumbersome to get working right.

I like GQRX OK, but I wish it had like macro buttons or some means of defining freq/bandwidth combinations.

I did not have a lot of luck running SDR# in virtualbox...YMMV

Yeah I scripted an interface between gqrx and dsd once. Gqrx is nice for signal discovery and basic demod but the plugins on sdr# are amazing. Also unitrunker and dsd+ make Windows stand out.

I use parallels on my mbp for all of my sdr stuff it works great.

Here is that interface
