I bought a couple on a whim with some extra Paypal money I had, but haven't had a chance to put it together yet. Thought it might be a simple tool for practicing CW with my brother in law on the other side of town.

You can get them assembled for about $6 packet delivery from china. I have one and swapped to a 7.030 crystal, they come with 7.024 IIRC...weird. I am puzzling over how to cheaply add a digital VFO to the unit, but my kit of choice for this is bigger than the little boxes I bought. I need a 3D printer.

I am not sure if it is exactly the same thing, but I built one of THESE a few years ago.
It is called the Pixie II. The one you link to looks a little bit more sophisticated than the one I built 
It's probably the same circuit only yours has stuff like connectors and IC sockets. |

Yes, 7.030 is the QRP calling freq.

IIRC, one of the gus locally was trying to use them for CW practice and couldn't get them to work - but don't quote me on that.
I bought this one and it works like a charm. |

What is the story with using these for code practice ? |

I have the same one as Scout pictured above. It includes a pot to adjust for a little bit of receive offset. Honestly my HB-1A is all I need for CW, I am only messing with the pixie as a 'so cheap I don't care' project. |
