So I have a yaesu FT-270 and I'm trying to connect them to my peltor comtac II  the comtacs have dual plugs. And I have the yaesu headset addapter can someone help me with the right addapter I need to connect them? Any help is appreciated I've been trying to figure it out for a while now and it's starting to piss me off.

Do you have the wiring details for the ComTacII side? I can't find anything quickly online, and I gather it depends greatly on which cable you actually have for it.

The Yaesu is going to be like most ham HT's and the PTT is connected to the mic. You will likely need to add something to the PTT circuit to make it work, depending on what you have.

So I guess the important question here is what radio wiring/PTT switch do you have for the headset?

That's the problem that I'm running into is I'm not sure what ptt adaptor to run. The plug that runs of the peltor is the peltor standard five pin. I tried ordering a Motorola two pin ptt adaptor and it kinda worked, I could transmit but I couldn't receive.

I have trouble figuring out which cables go to what when looking through the web sites. 3M's web sites are absolutely HORRIBLE to navigate or search.

Near as I can tell, there may be a PTT cable that works with the Icom F30 radio, which uses the same 2-pin mic connector as the ham radio line(although the F30 specific connector may have a screw-in retaining device that the ham radios don't have) - which is the same connectors that the Yaesu adapters break out to. A Kenwood 2-pin may also work but may need a 3.5mm stereo to mono adapter wired up(sleeve to sleeve, ring to tip - tip on the stereo connector isn't connected - compare Kenwood and Icom connector pinouts to see what I'm talking about) to make it work right. One of these would be the least amount of work required to get it running.

This one wouldn't even need the adapter cable!

The huge downside to the tactical comm setups is the price tag... $200+ for a freaking PTT cable is kinda silly.

Yeah, what they charge for a cable with some plugs is insane.

I have two pairs of Comtacs (I & II), and I'd glady pay someone for cables made at a realistic price.  If the price were good enough, I'd order multiple sets for my HTs, my IC7000, and my 7200.

I'd bet that the "NATO" connector and the waterproofing are the majority of the cost. Anyone know what that connector is specifically? Make/model#? Might be worth looking into making one. Of course it won't be as pretty...

I can't verify it, but there is some info here:  http://www.pprune.org/rotorheads/303546-uk-us-nato-headset-plug.html

I see nexus plugs on ebay for $20, but I don't know if that's the right one.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEXUS-U-93A-U-M9177-1-1-AIRCRAFT-28-CONNECTOR-PLUG-/150433114745?pt=US_Cables_Snakes_Interconnects&hash=item2306832a79

ETA:  Maybe not the right ones, but here is a bunch of plugs/adapters:  http://www.mypilotstore.com/MyPilotStore/secp/120

I wonder how hard it would be to take one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Radio-Communication-Gear-Element-Peltor-Headset-PTT-for-Yaesu-Radio-/390834174259?pt=US_Radio_Comm_Antennas&hash=item5aff883933 and change the plug to the newer Vertex style that you need?

If you're feeling lucky or adventurous, it might work....

I also wonder what it would take to toughen up one of those chicom PTTs to make it acceptable?  Maybe fill it with epoxy after checking all the connections?

Connector needed should be the same one as the VX-7, right? Uses all the same accessories. Here's a NEXUS adapter. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMPLIFY-Nexus-U-94-A-PTT-for-YAESU-VX6R-7R-FT-VX-Series-PRC-148-MBITR-PRC-152-/171258719255?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27dfd0ac17

Well.....  I'd even be interested in that one (as I have an Alinco DJ-G7 that uses a Vertex plug), but for one thing---  $100 seems pretty steeply priced for what is probably a chicom cord.  I say that because if you check the way his descriptions are written, his items for sale, and his feedback, it gives the impression he is actually probably chinese.

One recent feedback quote:  "Descripotion says what item located in London, UK. Shipping was from HK, Chinah***s ( 10)  May-30-14 03:52"

If it were $25-ish (like the other airsoft stuff usually is), I'd order one to try out.  If I liked it, I'd order another one for a spare, or maybe to try ruggedizing if it looked like there was room for improvement.  $100 would almost be reasonable to me if it were a "real" milspec type item, but not if it's for a chinese clone of unknown quality....

I don't know though, the Chinese can certainly make higher quality stuff when they want to.  If it were a known good quality item (other people's money spent and well reviewed), then I'd probably still consider it.

ETA:  The more I dig through his listings, I can't figure him out.  He even has an EF Johnson HT and a PRC-77 for sale?  Danged if I know!  His feedback seems okay....?

Someone (not me) order one real quick, and report back in detail about what you receive!

Cool, thanks in advance.

Pics of any disassembly, cutting, fabbing, and the finished product are a major plus as well.
