Well, that was interesting.  Someone started talking about his "secret squirrel" Navy background and there were several other former Navy guys in on the conversation that started questioning him pretty directly.  Turns out he was in fact in the Navy for a short time until he was run out.

It was polite, but he was clearly called out.

Moral: Don't make claims you can't back up in a community that has this much "variety."

Confused.  What trend?  This was a rag chew on one of the local repeaters.

ETA:  Ok, I get it.  This is a tech forum.  Off to GD....

No no stay it was just a joke. I think it was Mr Harry who accidentally posted in here just a while ago.

Give some more of the story what was he claiming?

I've met a few in Thailand.  Seems everyone is a seal/marine sniper/CIA or covert operative.   Funny really.

It was more what he refused to say, but inferred.  He made claims about being involved in electronic warfare and surveillance, but would not say when or where, and it wasn't recent.  He was asked which electronics school he went to and he just said West Coast.  He claimed to have only a rudimentary understanding of electronics even after going to school.  One of the other guys apparently used to be an instructor and said that there was no way to get through the Navy's training and have no real understanding.  Someone asked him what ship he was on, and he admitted that he was never actually on a ship.  His explanations started coming apart pretty quickly at that point and his final claim was that he was "released" for religious reasons.  He signed off saying that he was late for something with his wife.

It was just an informal rag chew on a repeater near St. Louis.  From the voices I think a couple of the guys remember when Navy ships had three masts.  I wasn't Navy, so all I did was listen and laugh.

With electronic warfare being a big news items, IS, IT, ET, and CT are finding out that we have a lot of unaccounted for shipmates.

When they're in foreign ports, they have to hide them.

Now that I think about it ... using the term "foreign ports" is sorta fitting..
