I would prefer it not to be hosted on Google, but then all my info is already in the fcc database. What about seeing if the same person that host's the emcomm freq card can host it?
I'm sure you thought of this but use different colors for capabilities, I can't remember if email was one of the data points or not but I wouldn't mind having my email on it. |

View Quote I like the idea of color coding and adding emails for sure..... problem with "keeping it off google" that I just thought of - we're mapping in google earth........ also, if the file gets emailed to someone on gmail, they have the file saved anyway |

6 character grid squares narrow it down pretty far without an exact pinpoint.

I'm sure there's not going to be a perfect answer though. To be perfectly honest, I'm still kind of mixed on the whole idea...but considering it. ETA: You can't talk across a grid square on VHF? mountainous/hilly/heavily populated? Looks like the size is 3mi x 4mi. So I guess depending on geography, completely plausible. |

PM Sent
Will the info be PM with a link or emailed with a file attachment? Sorry, I'm not exactly too familiar with Google Earth/Maps... ...but I'm about to be. |
|
also some confusion with the "public" question
by public I really should have put private...... none of this info is going out to anyone who doesn't give info first. That question was more a "I don't want to participate" question...... (it's been a long night) to those who sent info already - if that changes anything let me know... if you want to participate just send me a yes PM and I'll reply with how to send me your info - this way I can keep it all straight. If I have your stuff already, no worries..... *edit* if you didn't give me an email address please do so as well if you haven't sent info yet and would like to, either a PM or just post "I'm in" in this thread and I'll PM you instructions here is my example: Screen Name-----Call Sign ----- Lattitude ----- Longitude-------------------- Grid ---------------------------- Capabilities -------------------------------- Email NUCdt04 ------- *************-----39.949232 ---- -75.306463----------------- FM29** ----------------HF (80-10M) SSB and Digital, VHF/UHF FM--------------****************@gmail.com that probably won't format well.... you get the idea if you look up the lat/long you'll see, it puts you at the center of my town.... anonymous enough for me |
|
For your lat/long
download Google Earth (if you don't already have it - you'll need it anyway for this) find house be amazed at how much detail there is find neighbor sunbathing nude in their backyard shake your head when you realize it's the husband figure out how far away you want people to think you are from where you are drop a pin (yellow push pin on the top bar) move it to fine tune copy and paste what's in the box that pops up you can also walk outside with a GPS if you'd like - decimal degrees are best |
|
I am in.
Don't really care if public or private as few people know are care to be looking for me. I would rather give Nuk the info and get a file in return. |

Don't really care if public or private, I've sent the info to Nuk, hope to get a file in return, but I'm good with any group final decision. Far as I can tell, I'm the furthest away on the Left Coast, way down in So Cal, bout as far as I can be from the majority, distance and timewise. 73 goneunderhill |

Info sent. I'm fine with sharing it "privately", I just don't want it to end up in Google search results someday.
|
|
So far everyone who's sent me info is on the list
I'll add a list of who in a couple days.... I'm hoping to have first draft out in about a week (I could pop it out in like 10 min but figure why keep pushing updates) as far as publicity - the file will always remain with those who've added their info to it. |
|
Good work NUC, I see this being a valuable resource for emcomm's.

I'll send info as soon as I pass the test. I'll probably have to update a few times over the next year as I'm just starting out with the Baofeng UV-B5 but plan to expand as money permits.
