Let me clarify. The homebrew thread would be for projects we want to build or are building that we may need help with. If someone posts something they built, they should add a schematic and other pertinent info on the build. |

Antenna switch for 2 rigs. The rig not hooked to the antenna goes to the dummy load.
Waiting on clear labels for my little printer for a more professional look ETA: The dummy load is based on K4EAA's

SGC Smartlock and Rig switch. On the left side, needed to have a smart lock for the Kenwood radio, and have a tuner interface for the icom 706, so I needed a way to incorporate the smartlock and a switch to change between the rigs.
ETA: To think about it most of my stuff is home brew, I enjoy the satisfaction of building something and using it. If anyone needs larger schematics let me know. |

Stan, very cool!!
I like the switch between the DL and rig. I tried my hand at making an interface cable for doing digital. I think it worked. I wired it up on my Radio Shack electronics board first. I didnt get the chance to actually try it though.

Combo CI-V interface (same as VRM8TR schematic) with audio in/out transformer isolation.
Switch for TX enable and LED TX indicator. 
13 pin accy "break out box" for Icom with mini DIN and 1/8 inch inputs. 
Almost homebrew 2m beam.

My dad and I used to build a lot of home brew tranceivers, amps, antennas, computers (pre IBM era). Now I don't have time nor patience. He still builds a lot if stuff although he admits that he can no longer compete with high end digital rigs.
Here are a few pics of his latest built: Home brew HF amp based on a single 4CX800 (GU-74B) ceramic tube. Unlike other commercial amps this one is whisper quet. The tube cooling fan hardly makes any noticeable noise and can be easily removed from the back of the amp enclosure for easy transport. He built it from scratch, including the enclosure and the transformer. Looks professional, doesn't it? It may come home with me one day.

how about a simple question?
I have an UPS that outputs 12V and has a 120V AC input to charge the battery. Can I simply cut the AC line and terminate each side with a quick connector of some type? (leaving a stub on the UPS side, say 6in?) I was thinking of terminating the UPS side with the male end that would input to this type of AC cable: 
The UPS is small enough to fit in something like a motorcycle saddlebag. |

If I'm just cutting cable without disturbing the connector how would you recommend I reconnect? Crimp connectors? Is there a particular one? Shrink wrap I suppose too. It is intended to be a permanent mod to the cable since I'll be keeping the typical NEMA stuff on each end. |

How about a CRACKPOT thread?
When I key the mike it opens a relay that releases a bowling ball that rolls down the gutter that is tuned to my antenna tuner on 14.277 Mhz that releases the salt and fills the gutters to melt the snow. When I key the mike an hour later on 7.178.5 Mhz the end of the gutter lifts and the ball rolls back to where it came from and whle doing so it cracks all the ice in my gutters and keeps the ice dams from building up and also allows me to continue using the gutter as an antenna so I can work DX and yak with some guy who is two miles below the earth working in a diamaond mine in South Africa........

If you ran enough power you could use RF heating to keep the ice melted.

This is not as fancy as what you guys have built. After shelling out the $$ for a Heil microphone, I didn't have enough to get one of their swing arm booms. So, I made my own. I had an old swing arm lamp given me by another HAM. I took the lamp off and removed the power cord. I started by drilling a hole in my bench top. Then, I inserted the bottom pivot into the hole.
Where the lamp used to be, I created two extension arms out of flat aluminum stock. I bolted the microphone clip between them. Like the rest of the boom, this allows articulation and movement. 
It may not be as fancy as the one Heil sells for $120; but, it does what its supposed to. The best part of all is it was basically free. Here is an overview of the whole thing.

I like it. Boom mics allow extra desktop space and are great convenience item.
