Wondering if anyone did anything with the National Traffic System.

Thanks

There are a number of traffic nets where you can practice, both CW and verbal traffic.  You don't have to wait until an emergency to do this.  I can be anything from the "Welcome to Amateur Radio!" I got from Arley and another guy a week after being licensed, to the Radiogram I sent to an old friend on the occasion of her marriage.  She had been married to my best friend from high school, who passed away 10 years ago.

But check around, there are traffic nets.

Training and passing traffic is WHAT we do in Army MARS.

I've done it. It's kinda neat but not terribly exciting.

One time I was backpacking with some friends in the middle of nowhere but we were able to hit one repeater with the 2m HT we brought. There are a net that evening (with about 3 check ins) so I called in and asked if they could handle NTS. One of the guys called somebody else who came on freq to do it. We sent a nastygram to another buddy who was supposed to be backpacking with us but bailed on the trip at the last minute

I just got a call tonight from a traffic handler for my upgrade to extra.  The guy only lives about 6 miles from me but asked if I was interested in NTS.  I've got the frequency and plan on listening in.
