If you had to pick a heavier round for long/windy P-dog shooting, would it be .243 or .260?  .243 looks more ideal from the loading manual ballistics and .260 a little bit much, but the 90/100 grain bullets in .260 seem like really decent long-range projectiles (and totally devastating in closer).

The rifle choices in .260 seem a little better (from the AR perspective) than .243.

I'll be going to SD in a few weeks and I'm going to be shooting a 223

I don't have the extra cash to feed some of my other guns

I'll be shooting my .308 and maybe my .243 but not alot per the cost.

I was up there last year for a week and the .22 cal bullet does get blown around a little but you just adjust for wind and keep shooting. Its not like there is a 30+ mph wind all the time

If I HAD to pick one it would be the 243. I made some long shots last year with my 308 and 243 that I don't think I could have with my 223.

Yes

I spent 1 week up there about this time last year and the weather was great.

223 fits the bill in my book.  It is sure a lot cheaper than paying for 1000 rds of 22-250.  You'll be able to shoot far enough that you have trouble picking up your target out of the mirage.  My longest confirmed PD kill with a 223 was 476 yards.

243 is devastating on PD's, I have killed hundreds of them with mine, they look like a tactical nuke hit them when you connect. However I still prefer a 223.

BallisticBill,
Is that a H&R handi rifle?  If so how's the accuracy?  I've heard people having trouble with wandering zero's on them.
