Heard this on the radio this morning - seems strawberry growers (many around my parts) use methyl bromide to kill vectors in the soil: the EPA imposed limitations on methyl bromide that will soon go into effect?  i think that was the gist of it...anyway, now farmers are limited to organic means to fumigate soil.  Thought you might like to know, sorry no link.

The govt has been tryin to get rid of methyl bromide for many years. The growers keep getting extensions year after year which may be running out as you say. Without mb things will be very tough for growers, there is no alternative. Here in the south crops can hardly be grown without the mb to kill the nematodes in the soil.

Thanks.  Are there any other crops that depend on methyl bromide besides strawberries?

Most crops grown where it doesn't freeze to kill the nematodes in the soil.Nematodes are the most numerous of all animal species.
