storage question and moisture

I have some 5 gal buckets some with food in Mylar others
just with O2 absorbers (auguson farms). I’m trying to move some of my food to a
much closer BOL and it looks like my only storage option is an old canning room/cellar
in a basement that you can feel is moister than normal air and it has a gravel
floor. I always see people say store in a cool, dry, dark place if possible. My
question is does anybody know if plastic is permeable to moisture over long
periods of time, is it possible my food would spoil quicker if I put it in
there? Thank you

Temp is key. Rig a dehumidifier up id needed.

If ij mylar and in a bucket...dont worry.

Mine are in a dark humid area....three plus years now.plus prior to that most were stored in a non hvac controlled garage...

Maybe ill break the myth...and open something....again.....

The mylar blocks everything, the bucket just provides a hard shell.

For what is just in a bucket, in theory it may not last as long, but the plastic is more permeable to air than water, so it should go bad due to O2 contamination before the moisture gets in. I'd worry more about temp than humidity.

+1 on the mylar being impermeable to moisture, but I'd still consider a dehumidifier (ideally running to a floor drain) if it's not too much hassle. Just to get rid of mold considerations; not on the food, but on the buckets themselves as well as other things you're liable to eventually store down there - dry goods like clothing, documents, etc.
