From my research it looks like it is just thin spaghetti cut into 1" strips to make it fit better in the can.
I am pretty sure that it is just pasta.

I will ask this weekend.. But I don't off the top of my head remember anyone saying anything about them.. My guess is, dried pasta, about 1" long.. ;)

I have opened a can of the macaroni, was as good as Barrila to me.
