I was looking to get a Champion 5000 or 6000 watt generator that has to have electric start as per the wife,(sorry, no pics!) and I would like it on the quieter side. I already have a transfer switch (240 volt)which was installed in the house prior to me buying the house. I also have a 3000 watt Kipor Inverter generator which is only 120 volts. I have 5 out of the 8 circuits in use in the transfer switch and would like to add some lighting in the master bedroom/bath.Right now I have 2 refrigerator /freezers and 1 freezer to run, which the Kipor handled with no problem during the last power outage(5 days, I plugged them in one at a time with regular extension cords)
While looking around I came across the DuroMax generator. They make 2 models around that size. One is the XP4400E which is a 3500 watt/4400 surge. I think this generator is a little too small(I don't want to have to run both generators if it isn't powerful enough) It is listed as 69 db. This generator is about $490 with free shipping but won't be in stock until 10-13-11.
The other is the DuroMax XP8500E which is 7000 watt/8750 surge. This generator is listed at 72 db. It has a Auto Throttle which states: Noise level: 72 Decibel with a load. 41 Decibel with idle control engaged and no load.
Run-Time [ @ 50% Maximum Output ]: 8.0 hrs. This can be greatly increased with intermittent loads and the use of the idle control. The cost is $899 with free shipping from the same dealer. It wont be in stock until 10-20-11.
Duromax also makes a MX4500E which might possibly have the Idle Control, but I'm not sure.
I'm not in a rush to get either generator, but I would like to know if anybody has had any experience with the Duromax line of generators.

No personal experience with them, but RV.net has a few old threads on the Duro brand here, here, and here.

Thanks again for the links you posted Skibane. While they were older and not stellar, just about every customer review here(  http://www.generatorfactoryoutlet.com ) was excellent for all of the DuroMax generators.
