Anybody use one of these? I am tempted but my budget is a bit tight so I am being picky where I spend what money I have to upgrade my preps.

Looks as if a license of some sort is needed. Might read the comments on the right too.

Pretty good review:
http://www.gadgetreview.com/2009/04/gadget-review-eton-fr-1000-voicelink-radio.html These sell for about $150 at Radioshack and Bass Pro Shop so the price certainly looks good for what it is. As that review pointed out, I would rather have a radio that includes Solar so I am going to pass on this one. |

I agree. I have yet to find an emergency type radio that has both NOAA and SW. It's either one or the other. |

Amazon reviews are pretty poor.
Someone said they got the FMR-500 instead which includes solar charging and shortwave function but you lose the GMRS. Amazon sells it for $50 shipped. It looks better but still not very good based on its Amazon reviews. |
