I guess an SF prep should be some retraining on stair operations. Maybe install some rails?

That sucks man. Hope 'ya heal up quickly.
I would never make jokes about falling.....had my grams to the er the other week, she fell and required staples in her head. |

Perfect post for SF.
We can always use the reminder than all the prep in the world can be nullified by a single moment of carelessness, even during the most mundane of events. Good luck with the toe, but mind that back... minor back tweaks have a way of becoming a life long aggravation. |

It happened when I coughed as I was getting out of the shower. Who would have thought that coughing could do that. |

I already had a previous fall off a roof in 1993. I had surgery in 2003 to fuse my neck and remove disk. It doesn't take much for me to knock me out of whack. You hurt your back it becomes a life long problem. My mother had three back surgeries during her life.
 Oh, handrails scare me since I straddled one in 2003 from the roof.

You're lucky you weren't hurt worse, particularly after a spinal fusion. A thirty-five year guy who lived near me died last Fall after falling down the stairs. He wasn't inebriated.....just took a bad step and broke his neck as he bounced down the stairs. |

Fastenal sells fall protection harnesses. You could be the home in the neighborhood that requires folks to harness up to go upstairs.
Amen on avoiding straddling rails. The most frightening moment I had while trucking was when Jrs 2, 3, & 4 were almost murdered at the starting gate by a truck bumper. |

Before I had my last herniated disc operated on, the doctor mentioned several other things which could be the "final straw" if you have a disc that's getting bad. Among the things he mentioned were coughing, sneezing, and even a bowel movement. Once a disc is weakened, it doesn't take much to aggravate it. |

Slept with my neck at a bad angle once. When I got up my neck was a little sore and stiff but it quickly turned into an excruciating cramp. I couldn't hold up my own head or use my neck for anything or that muscle would immediately cramp into a ball painfull enough to make me hyperventilate. My wife had to help me sit up to eat and use the bathroom for 3 days. I was literally helpless for 3 days unable to move. All because I slept on my stomach with my neck twisted to the side.
The one mitigating factor I've noticed is over all physical fitness. One tends to have less sudden injuries if they are active and fit. |

This reminds be of the guy here that posted about his eye injury. I forget the exact details, but I think he was doing some work on the side of the road, and when he turned his head, some metal protrusion got him in the eye. Had to be flown all over the state trying to catch an eye specialist.
My father has also had smaller problems like that, he has had lit oxy/acetylene torches catch him a few times (and me once, burning my hand), as well as the solder rod poking him in the eye as well. I'm usually pretty serious about wearing eye protection, even when clearing brush after seeing how easy it is to get caught. |

in 2006 my wife went shopping , when she got home she carried all the bags in one go and had a brain hemorrhage
what if she made a few trips to the car for the shopping ? she was in no rush just wanted to get in all in in one trip. slow is fast . wise worrds take care john |
