My little brother has a mystery flu. They had to send a sample from him to the CDC and no one has heard back yet. Now, my parents are being rushed out to get their Tamiflu by the doctors –– they aren't having much luck finding it in stock, even in downtown Chicago. I said to my dad, "I know you like to make sport of my lifestyle sometimes, but if you need it, I already have tamiflu if you want it."

Fingers crossed.

Sad to hear that but I guess there is still good in your situation. How much was the Tami flu that you bought?

I bought the Tami-flu some time in the past when other flus made demand exceed supply. I spent about $150 bucks on it. I am hoping that this is all just another manufactured crisis, but I would hate to be the one guy who didn't jump the one time it was time to jump. Right?

how does one get tamuflu and such without a friendly doc willing to write a script when you don't "need" it

Chances are he will be fine. Even if this were the 1918 Spanish Flu, and this was 1918, he'd still have 98/100 chance of getting better, and way better odds than that with modern antibiotics.

Ironically, you'd have to go to Mexico.

Thanks for the kind wishes all. I didn't start this thread fishing for them, but I appreciate them. I think my purpose with this thread was just to demonstrate how any event can touch any community. 330 confirmed cases worldwide, but how many like my brother that aren't "confirmed"? This event also makes me ask the question, how many regular flu sufferers have convinced themselves that they are about to be seriously ill because they are afraid of the bug dujour?
