anyone have experience with the yamaha EF1000is or EF2400is generators ? thanks

Honda and Yamaha are nearly identical.

The Yamaha is top quality just like the Honda. You really can't go wrong with either one.

Mine's just a little bigger than what you are looking at - it's an EF 2800i and I've been really pleased with it.  I went a little bigger so I could run my whole camper (to include AC) off of it.  With young kids a major poweroutage w/o AC could be a major SHTF

I have a Yamaha EF1000iS. I bought it mainly to recharge my 12v batteries on my camper - but also as an alternative to my Coleman 3500w generator.  I got rid of the Coleman shortly after.  I did a lot of shopping and talking to other campers - the Honda and Yamaha a very similar in performance - but their physical layout is different.

It always starts on the first pull - even when I tested it at 20 degrees below zero.  It runs very quiet and just sips fuel - especially at partial load.  I have not yet tested it to see if it would run my refrigerator or furnace yet (just moved to a new house) - but some people on RVnet forums have run them on the Honda/Yamaha 1000 - but ohers have said they would not run them.

I own three Honda generators-eu2000i, EB2500XK1, EB5000XK1. That being said, it wouldn't bother me a bit if my three were Yahama blue rather than Honda red. Yahama makes a top-shelf generator with an excellent warranty. One of my buddies owns a small Yamaha inverter genset (2400 watts I think). The power from his Yamaha is every bit as clean and rock steady as the power from my eu2000i.

My local outdoor power equipment dealer sells and services Honda, and has a large inventory of spare parts. That was my primary reason for buying red, rather than blue.

I have the Yamaha inverter ef2400is converted to tri fuel.  Great generator and Yamaha warranties the genny with the tri fuel conversion.  Honda won't.

I prefer the form factor of my Hondas to My buddy's Yamaha.

That said, if I needed a generator and didn't already have one or the other, I'd buy the best deal between the 2.

they make almost all the kits for various retailers, and Yamaha recognizes them and will warranty the generator with their kits.

I have a YG2800i.  I like it.  I think it's a bit louder than a Honda,  but I got it for the clean power,  gas saving throttle, * and * the size at 67 pounds is light enough i can wrestle it around into the back of my truck single-handedly.  The next size up tops 130 pounds.

It will run all my 120volt loads.  Obviously, not all at once,  but I'm not trying to use it as a true standy generator.

My $.02 is a couple of smaller generators is more useful than one big monster for redundancy and portability.  (Actually i have 3, a 2800w, a 1800w and a 600w )  

My understanding of "twinning" generators to double the current is they have to be identical units,  ie. can't hook up a eu1000i and a 3000 watt unit together.

Yamaha just came out with a 120v/240v inverter 6500 watt genny for this year as well as a new 4500 watt inverter.  The EF6300iSED is similar and a direct competitor to the 240v Honda.  It looks really nice but it is pricey, heavy, and doesn't have the fuel saving benefits of the smaller Hondas and Yamahas.  If I was in the market for a high quality 120v/240v inverter genny though............

The 6500 is the decision I'm wrestling with.  I can easily get away with a 3000 or 4500 if I'm spendy, but my house AC until is pretty small, 2.5 tons (19A @ 240V), and I could actually run it off the 6500.  But is that capability really worth the extra money, considering I could just go with ceiling fans in the summertime?
