Ok there always a debate about  body armor and which would be better something concealable or not. AR vs AK which is better and how one of them would not be seen as a "bad guy" weapon, so on and so on.
 Every other night my wife and i walk 3 miles with either our BOBs or GHBs. Once a week we take our bikes on a 5 mile ride. I want to know if something is going to work or how i can try and cut weight.  I think it's a good idea to see if something is going to fail during training than in the field.
 I'm getting to my point in a second, bare with me for a second.  So last week i decided well hell i've shot all sorts of ways and sprinted with my plate carrier. I have not  walked any  distance with it though.My carrier with everything weights in at 35lbs. So one night i decided to throw it on and see how  the load feels on my typical walk. My wife gave me bit of an odd look when i told her what i was taking on this walk. Since i wouldn't be breaking any laws by simply walking in it there was really nothing that could happen other than an officer making contact with me to see what's up She said i looked like a suicide bomber.Keep in mind i just had on some shorts a t-shirt and the carrier. I grabbed a bottle of water  and set out for our walk.
 I expected  at least a few looks from passing cars or other people out and a about. Our route takes us down a 4 lane road that's lined with homes  and well lite. We usually go out around 9pm so there would still be plenty of traffic.
 So here we are 5 minutes into our walk and a local PD car goes by. They didn't  even look. keep in mind  there is a lady with a pack on and a 6ft tall man with a level IV  carrier , pouches and biceps protectors walking down the road on a well lite road. OK mayeb he was on the phone , checking his tough book. several cars pass, no one even slows down. Another cop car, and then  another. In less than an hour 10 cop cars passed. Not one even tapped his brakes.
  So what's my point? People don't pay attention. Concealable body armor? i strolled down the road with better armor than the local swat team and 10 LEO never even noticed me. the AK looks bad and people would thing you were a bad guy?  That's if people noticed you even had a rifle. This is everyday mind set for the world. Can you imagine what people would be like when they are trying to save their own asses? i couldn't even get a look from anyone when they were thinking about dinner.
  Most of my friends are still LEOs to this day. When i told them about my trip they were surprised. One that i didn't toss a windbreaker over my carrier and two that no one even slowed down to see what was up.
 So if you thin during a panic  are going to notice your evil Ak or your friendly AR or your body armor no one noticed this in almost daylight conditions during a calm evening down a major road.

ah you're missing the point! Its not about the armor. It's people the amjority of people don't know or don't pay attention enough for you to consider their reactions. people will tell you don't wear 5.11 pants because it screams gun. I bet if you took a poll at the mall 90% of the people would think that's a pant size not a brand.

To answer someone's question about the number of LEOs on other nights.. It can vary from zero to 15 with an average of 5-6. The road we use is one of the few that will take you from one end of the city to the other.

Aim, you are preaching something that I figured out first hand years ago.

LEO friend and I were out to dinner with our wives. I was using a new holster at the time, and it had loops that snapped around your belt. He and I got up to both go to the bathroom, and apparently one of the snaps on the holster got caught on the seat, unsnapped, and caused the holster to rotate downward under the weight of the gun, hinged on the one remaining strap. As it inverted itself, my Glock 17 dropped out of the holster, hit the tile floor, and went happily skidding across the floor. As I scramble to grab it, my buddy reaches in his pocket for his badge, ready to pull it out. I pick up the Glock and promptly reholster. We then both noticed that in this fully crowded place, not a single person had noticed. From then on we both began watching and noticing things, and came to the same exact conclusion as you, time and time over. The vast majority of the population simply have no awareness of anything past 6 ft in front of their face.

I've been thinking about doing that very same thing. If i ever get a OD or Tan plate carrier I just may do it. My current one is Multicam (sorry protus ) and I'm pretty sure that would cross the line around here.

I'd probably make some good friends with the local Deputys though
