I am looking to buy a used flats boat. Going to check out one very soon. Does anyone know of a checklist that I can use to evaluate all aspects of a used boat? I've searched the net and have found a few things but nothing that has been verified as accurate and complete.

Can't believe I missed that thread. Great information. Thanks! I noticed you are the originator of the thread. What do you think about a 2001 Johnson 115 two stroke outboard? I am looking at a boat that has this motor. Thanks!

Run away if it's a "FICHT" fuel injected engine. If it's carbureted, have it checked out thouroughly including an on the water test run.
While our shop is Johnson/Evinrude certified, we don't see alot of those engines. Mostly Mercury. I can say that practically every J/E engine in for problems not related to bad fuel or routine maintenance are electrical in nature. The ignition boxes or "power packs" have a tendency to fail or become intermittant.
Member "akethan" on this board is a J/E dealer and sees way more of those than we do. It may be worth your while to IM him with the serial/model number and get his opinion.

Thanks for the info. How do I tell if it's carb'd or a FICHT fuel injected engine? By the model and SN or is it something I can visually see when looking at the engine? I will also get the SN and send it to akethan. Thanks a lot for your help!

The engine should say FICHT right on the cowling.
