Oh man, now you're talkin'!

I've fished everywhere from the Carribean to the Indian Ocean....and I have no memories I hold more special than my trips to Alaska!

The salmon and halibut fishing were off the hook...though I never did go crabbing!

That looks like fun! BTW, I was in Angoon the last time I was up there. Highly recommended.

Taking a jewfish out of the water for a pic can get you a ticket now.

From what I understand, that only applies to the big ones...You are not allowed to "land" a big jewfish.
FWIW, there was a Marine Patrol officer just out of the picture on the right side.

Funny story:
I took my dad offshore that day.
the Inlet is mostly a no wake/minimal wake zone, so I decided to troll a big lure on the way out.
That little jewfish took the lure, and actually pulled us backward while I was fighting him. (in a heavy 22ft Chris Craft center console).
Anyway...when i got him up to the boat, I said "damn! its a jewfish!".

My dad had never seen one, and thought it was a legal grouper.
I told him I was positive it was a jewfish.

As I am working to unhook the fish, a Marine Patrol officer cruises by, and my dad freakin HAILS him...and calls him over..."Is this a jewfish, officer?"

The officer laughed and said "Yes, sir...that is a jewfish. Take a picture and let em go".
(Which I had planned to do in the first place, since I had no doubt it was a jew)

We continued on our way out the inlet, and fished about 20 miles out for a few hours, but the seas went from 2' - 3' swells to about 6', so we came back in.

On the way back, I dropped the same lure and trolled the inlet again and caught ANOTHER jewfish, about 20 pounds bigger than the first one...in the SAME SPOT

Warnerve, how did the snowcrab taste, compared to frozen? Can you catch king crabs like that too?

It was great. Fresh is always good compared to frozen. I don't eat much crab so I am not Mr. Taste Test - but it was good stuff. We got back and steamed it same day.

Snappers from Key West. I received $280 from boat pool for Mr mutton on boat party. We were about 35 to 40 miles out from Gulf side, out of Key West. Took about 15 minutes to land mutton on medium tackle. Also landed 12 yellow tail snappers and many junk species too.

Sorry M4. This came up on active topics, and I didn't realize it was in "tech" ish sort of forum. Want me to delete my lame post?

Interesting thread anyway, and I'm kind of glad I inadvertently tagged it. :)

No no no, I was just trying to steer future posts to actual caught fish...not so much dinner pics with fish entre's. No worries Dawn.
