I've been an archer for 18 years now, and a bowhunter for 12 years. I used to trade up to the latest and greatest bow every year, but have had the same bow for the last 8 years. I've been researching for a new bow purchase, and I'm surprised at the advancements that have been made since my last bow purchase in 2000.

My last bow (I sold it recently) would shoot a 6gpp arrow at 261 FPS with a kinetic energy of 55.38 at a draw weight of 61 pounds. I could purchase a new BowTech 82nd Airborne or PSE X-Force and get 305 FPS and a kinetic energy of 61.98 from a 6gpp arrow AT 50 POUNDS!!! That's a 16% increase in speed and 12% increase in kinetic energy from an 18% lighter arrow at a draw weight decreased by 18%!!!

It's just amazing that I can get that much better performance from a modern 50# bow over an 8-year old 61# bow. Just thought I'd share.

I've been looking at the PSE X-Force bows. The SS that you've linked to was a consideration of mine, but I've figured out that since it's 20 FPS slower than the regular X-Force, it won't top 300 FPS unless I crank it up to at least 60#. I can easily shoot a 60# bow (the one I just sold was 61#), but I'm wanting a bow that'll do 300 FPS at 50#.

If it wasn't for wanting to drop my poundage, the SS would definitely be my pick. It's got a great 7" brace height and is very compact at 26 5/8" axle to axle. If only it were rated at 350 FPS IBO...

But the efficiency gains I understand.

Don't overlook the two BowTech Airborne models. They're longer axle to axle compared to the PSE X-Force SS that you're looking at, but are "supposed" to be the greatest bows released for 2008.
