Went hunting on Thanksgiving day. We were hoping for a deer, but I ended up taking a hog.
This was my first bow kill, actually first anything kill.

We were sitting near my buddies house in his pop-up blind.

Been sitting there for a few hours when small family of hogs came by.

This one was about 20-25 yds when I shot him.

He isn't exactly "Hog Zilla", but he is my first and I'm very happy.

being that it was on Thanksgiving day, made it all the better.

sorry about the crappy pic, it was a disposable camera that I keep in my hunting bag.

Good eatin' size.  Looks like he was well hit, too.

Congratulations.

Did you get a decent lesson in blood trailing?

Yes. The guy I was hunting with has been hunting since he was 6yrs old, he is the one who first took me hunting and has been teaching me.

He helped me to follow the blood trail. We got worried when the trail stopped, and the pig was not there. We had to search for a few min for him.

I ended up giving the hog to a local family. They were very happy.

Thank you.

We have several days off coming up (holiday stand down). So I hope to be in the woods jungle as much as possible during that time.

Either with the bow or shotgun.

Thank you.

That family called this weekend wanting to know if I went hunting again.

Unfortunately I did not go hunting, we went deep sea fishing instead.

Big congrats.

Smoke the swine and eat well on your next kill.

Here is a pick of a big boy that I am scared to shoot with my bow.

Is he related to HogZilla?   That is a big boy!

We have some like that here, but I have yet to see one like that while hunting.

I rarely see them that big when hunting either.

I suppose that is why they managed to grow so large, the big ones are the smart ones.

I have a friend who has hogs on his ranch 20 miles away from mine where that picture was taken.  His hogs all have watches and run on a schedule.  During fall, winter and spring, you could be gurranteed a hog kill and a certain time at a certian feeder plus or minus 20 minutes.

All my hogs are manic-depressive.  Four or five days in a row of them showing up to each feeder then nothing for several days.  Ususally the same several days that I am up in my bow blind.  I guess they can't bring themselves to get out of bed on those days.

I have taken to hunting late at night with my AR, surefire and q-beam.  Three down so far by that method.

Next one you get, cook him and let us know how it tastes!!

Do wild hogs smell like farmed hogs?
