Short answer is yes. If the pickings are good, owls will invade a territory in mass until quite a while after the good hunting is gone. Owls around here have been known to take off cats and small dogs.
Tj Story Time
I have all kinds of owl stories from kittens being snatiched from hands to one almost taking my head off, but this I think is more appropriate.
My neighbor use to raise domestic rabbits for commercial slaughter. A good looking liberal lady up the street, found the practice terrible so whenever she got some spare cash she'd come buy some of the bunnies to save them. My neighbor liking being around this good looking woman, would sell them to her. Like most good meaning fools, she would set them free saying some crap like "Live free little bunny."
Within a few months, the hill I lived on was covered with little white and spotted bunnies. Then the owls came. Night after night we'd hear screaming bunnies. Talk about hard to sleep. The owls stayed killing those ignorant bunnies till they were all gone, every last one of them. Not only did they wipe out the infestation of domestic bunnies but every wild rabbit and about all the other small game. It took them about a year to decimate our small wooded area. it took about three years before the wild rabbits returned and even today a decade later, the number of wild rabbits is still not what it was before liberal girl played mother nature.
