I am from vmaq-2 and vmaq-4. did some time with vmfp-3(now defunct I hear.)

I was, MASS-2 and MASS-1.
I was a 7242 in the DASC, never did a stint in the ASRT, but I heard a few years ago they scrapped it (the pilots hate being ground controlled, and on the rock they got caught bar talking about jinking on release on the radar runs to cause misses, cause they wanted the ASRT sent away...only the A-4 allowed system direct control and release)

Hell of a jammer and bomber. I was pissed when
Q2 was forced to take the "Playboy Bunnie" off the tail because it was not "politically correct",and the dets A, B, etc. were turned into their own squadrons, damn.. that was history they changed....oh well.. at least I
have lots of pictures to look back on.

Tomcat I am an original det X and det Y and A det Zsquare. I am a 6386 ecm tech . When I got out I worked QA for avionics and ord shops and cdqar for all shops.
As you stated the thing that made me sad was when we became PC...pat

I served in the 2nd Marines,MAG 29 HML167 and VMO1,med det with 264 and link up with ugly angles back in 79,

I was active USMC from 82-86. MOS was 6076 Aviation Support Equipment Technition, hydrylics/pneumatcs/structures. The most time I spent at one duty station was at MCAS Iwakuni Japan MAG-12, H&MS-12(Outlaws) Oct.1983-Oct.1985
We got our A-4 squadrons from the west coast(El Toro) and our A-6's from the east coast(Cherry Point). Fighters(F-4's) were on the MAG-15 side. I have lots of great old photos. Some of Q-2 and VMFP-3 and quite a few others.

I was a flight surgeon with 2nd MAW Medical '89-'91. Does that count?

Deployed to Iwakuni with VMA(AW)-224, then I was attached to VMGR-252 for a short while, then went to the PGW with MAG-40 HQ element.

Been IRR since '97.

Hey tomcat, I got to 231 in Nov 91 and left in June 200 to go to 203. Now I'm a BKS MGR in the 14 S-4. What shop were you in???

I was a Navy AK, I know not a Jarhead, nevertheless Dept. of the Navy. You know where jarheads get their orders and paycheck from.[;)] I was stationed at MCAS El Toro though, 86-90, H&HS Navy Supply. Bldg 321. Does that count?

We were the original "Hell's Angels" and were so named by our CO, Maj. Ed Overend, who had formerly been with the AVG Flying Tigers under Gen. Chenault. We formed at Cherry Point and
did a little training at a little country base called Oak Grove near Pollocksville, NC.
Shipped out in Sept. '43 and returned to the states in Dec. '44. Squadron was split up and part were assigned to carrier duty and part to Mojave, CA to train a new squadron. I thank
HST frequently for dropping the bomb. Otherwise, I would have gone back to the Pacific
One trip was enough for me.

Sorry I forgot to mention our plane in the above post. We had the F4U1 Corsair when in the Pacific but while at Mojave we had the F4U4
which was a little faster. The F4U1 had a 3 blade prop while the F4U4 had a 4 blade. The F4U1 was the one the Japs called "Whistling Death." If my old memory serves me correctly,
the F4U1 was the first plane in WWII to break
400 MPH in level flight. They added a water injection system to the Pratt & Whitney 2800 HP engine and that really gave it a boost for a few seconds. Couldn't leave it turned on for more than a few seconds as it would burn the pistons but as one pilot said, "A few seconds in a fighter pilot's life is a long time."

A good friend gave me a large painting of the F4U1 in flight for my 75th birthday [I'm now 80]
and it hangs on my living room wall directly across from my easy chair. I look at it often and it brings back many memories.
