How many of you are wearing the "Carbine" badge if you qualified with the M4? The "Rifle" badge is not the correct badge as the M4 is a carbine according to the M4 manual and it even says carbine on the side of the lower.

I dont remember, is there even a spot on the record fire form to enter if you qualed with an M4 or M16A2?

I shot a qualfication twice a year from 96 to 01 with an M4 and never wore anything other than a rifle bar.

A few of my M4s still said M16A1 on the lower as they were arsenal rebuilds.

I'm with 82nd on this one, plus they are harder to find than the rifle badges...I mean, I have a qual bar for machine gun using a 249, eventhough "auto rifle" would probably be closer to correct since it's not crew served...

I had to special order the "Carbine" badge from clothing sales. They didn't stock them as no one wore it. The "Machine Gun" badge is the correct badge for the 249. It is a machine gun just not a crew served machine gun.

Never thought it was important enough to even think about it...until I read this...Just one more thing for some AR670-1 Nazi to worry about.  Minutia.....

I wear carbine.

I used to wear rifle, but then my buddy was at the board and the SGT MAJ gigged him for having rifle.  After that we all got carbine.

Does that mean I can wear both if I qualified on the M16 and M4? That means I can max out.

I always figured carbine was just left over from the days of the M1 carbine, along with "FLAME THROWER".

Yes you can wear both. I wear the M16 Sharpshooter, M4 Expert , Pistol Expert, Drvier T, and the Driver W. Even if you no longer shoot M16, you wear the badge of last qualification.

I was just thinking about this as I was going through AR 670-1 a few weeks back during WLC (thats the new name for PLDC).  Carbine is correct.

Regardless, I always just wear my expert pistol badge.

Automatic Rifle is the correct badge for the M249.

So "Auto Rifle" is for the M249 because it is not a crew served weapon and the "Machine Gun" is for crewserved weapons like the M60?

correct, the 249 is not a machine gun in army verbage, it's an automatic rifle like the old BAR....
