Is it just a coffee table book for wannabe's or does it have useful information?

Useful meaning a good general guide of what to expect and how to prepare for say airborne school for example.

Most of the info is "dated".  Just a decent book to browse through.

It's ok....but you should talk to people in the military that have done those schools and ask them their experience.
What happened in '01 may not necessarily happen now (except in like Airborne school).  RIP/Ranger can change a little, Air Assault can change somewhat....etc....

Man I just watched that  TLC show on the Army Sniper School.  It showed a class from 2004 going through, and EVERYTHING looked different from when I was there in 94.
Hell, they had optics on M24's that looked like something out of Starship Troopers.

You sure it was on TLC? I just checked the weekly listing for TLC and all I found was "Ballroom Bootcamp"

It's a good book, it has some decent info in it about all the schools, but it is getting a little dated...

It was TLC or one of those cable channels.  I don't think it was history channel, maybe the Military Channel.  Anyway, it was a neat show.  They still use the same ranges, but the living quarters, and classrooms are different.  We were in the RTB area.  We ate in RTB's chow hall, etc.  The barracks were really shitty, but the new facilityies looked much nicer.

I have heard most of these schools have changed as a result of the current conflict. A few years ago the book was fairly current.
