But don't listen to me ! I was a E-5 for most of my 19yrs guard!

Good luck.....I got buddies who went through that school!

Well, I'm not quite E-5 yet, looking at the board results though it might be a a hit or miss. What will I expect when I submit my application, more less how does the board select from all the aplicants?

USMC required, in the mid 70's that you be a GySgt (E7), have 10 years minimum service, have superior fitness reports and be unconditionally recommended by your present and past CO's. Selection board reviewed all of the above plus photographs  of applicant in uniform. It was not easy. Don't know much about Armyor Natl Guard warrant selection process. Good luck. Semper Fi. Charles.

I'm goin through this right now.  I had some uncommon questions and the best way to get quick answers is go to www.goarmy.com and click on the "chat with recruiters" link.  There's 4-5 recruiters in there and they have answers or links to answers for everything.

Another site is usawocc.army.mil/
Find the SOP in .pdf and it'll tell you a lot of what to expect at WOCS.

The Warrent Officer recruiting page.  It has a good break down of the application process.
www.usarec.army.mil/hq/warrant/

The Army's page
www.goarmy.com/JobDetail.do?id=319

Hope this helps.

CW2-Aviation
The above listed web pages are full of good info. If you have a general question feel free to ask. Are you going for aviation or a tech field? Aviation has no rank or year of service requirement while many of the tech fields do. The Army is currently revamping the WOCS program. If you are a PLDC grad you only have to go for 4 weeks and they have cut out a lot of the stressful BS. If you are not a PLDC grad its still 6 weeks. I think this program starts in January.

I actually have a few WO questions for you Ronin.  Hope you don't mind.

1)  I've been told lately that pilots get one of two tours after Ft Rucker.  One being Korea and the other being somewhere equally as shitty but can't remember.  Any truth to this?

2)  What are the time in service and other requirements to pick up CW2?

Thanks!

1. Duty station all depends on which aircraft you get/pick.  Blackhawks have the widest selection of duty stations while 58's and 47's are pretty slim. It totally depends on what time of year you select and as always the needs of the army.

2. As posted above, two years from the day you pin WO1 you pick up CW2 unless you get in trouble. After that its six years to the next rank, five for techs, but you can get below the zone in five.

Are you a pilot or?

How are the Apache positions looking right now?

Thats awesome Chief.

Where are you located out of?

We flew with some helo's out of the Alaska ANG the other day.  They were some pretty dang good pilots.

Ft. Lewis

I'll expand a little on aircraft availability. When I picked aircraft it was mostly blackhawks with two or three 58's and 64's and no 47's.  Some classes have a lot of 47 slots. It all depends on how backlogged they are on each airframe.

Awesome.

I got quite a few buddies up in the Strykers at Lewis.

And what is the designator for Apache?  And who flies the Little Bird/Loaches these days?  Surely the 160th SOAR doesnt have them all on lock-down?

Thanks Chief.

You want to know what its like to fly an apache? Get a toilet paper tube and put some green plastic over one end. Hold this up to your right eye. Cover you left eye. Now go sit in your parked car. Congrats now you too are a ramp weight. I'm only kidding and I'm biased of course.

Ramp weight? Is that anything like flying as a sand bag in a Cobra?

So what would I have to do in order to be assigned to th 160th?

Going the aviation rout what will I expect the schooling to be like? Is it a gentlemens course or is it like almost every other school where your the asshole untill you graduate?

Link Posted: 12/16/2005 6:48:46 PM EDT
[#27]
Well, I'm not a Warrant, but I grew up at Rucker. WOC is where all the BS happens, but once you graduate there, and get to flight training, it calms down and becomes a "gentlemens" course. But don't think it gets easy, cause you're gonna have to study your a** off

WOC is changing in the near future. It will now be four weeks long if you are a PLDC grad. They have also taken most of the stressful BS out of the course. If you haven't been to PLDC its still six weeks long. Either way its not a very long process to become an officer considering that OCS is fourteen weeks long. Flight school is a gentlemans course. As long as you are where you are supposed to be, pass your tests and check rides, and keep your nose clean, no one messes with you. You do have to study your ass off.  I studied more in flight school than I ever did in college. There is a boat load of info you have to retain and not a lot of time to retain it. Think drinking out of a fire hose. Last time I checked 160th wants one operational tour for pilots before they assess. You can assess earlier but experience is your friend.

[#30]
So what happens to the guys who go threw woc and then don't make it all the way threw flight school?
Link Posted: 12/21/2005 9:35:25 PM EDT
[#31]
Most make it through flight school. The Army needs pilots so they will in most cases set you back a class or two if you are having problems with the flying or academics. If you do something stupid you get the boot. Very few are being removed from the program because they can't hack it. Those that do leave the flight program are usually for medical or disciplinary problems. I've seen a few guys go to another warrant field but they all had been in that field before and were NCO's. So if you are coming from a MOS that doesn't have warrants you are SOL (discharged from the army).
