I need some help answering a question, I am 18 and nothing prohibits me from owning a firearm, can my dad loan me his .45 pistol so I can go too the range? In california you have to be 21 to buy a handgun but I remember something about a father can give a handgun to his immediate family member?

Regardless of what people say here, check your state law first and get a copy of it.

It very well may be legal.  For instance I could not legally buy a pistol in Minnesota when I was 18, but my dad bought my first pistol (and 2nd) for me and then I LEGALLY GOT A PERMIT TO CARRY IT!

Although you may not be able to "buy" a pistol you can often legally have one depending on you local laws.  Even if there is a law preventing you from posessing one it should make exceptions for target practice or hunting.

Don't ask me how it makes sense... but it does to some extent.
