Colt 6450 9mm Rifle for duty?

Hi guys was thinking about buying a Colt 6450 for duty> I have a Ar in 223 but I was just thinking of over penetration at short range with 223. Does any one here use one for duty? Also what is the bullet speed compared to using it in a handgun. Thanks John

9mm slow heavy bullet no expansion or breakup penetrates further than .223 ammo at high velocity. Recoil on the 9mm blowback gun is also heavier than on the gas operated .223 gun.

More and More police entry teams are going to short rifles in .223 as opposed to subgun caliber firearms because of the less penetration of the .223 rounds than the pistol caliber rounds.

The 9mm pentrates further through dry wall than the .223.

The .223 will punch soft body armor, 9mm won't.

Stick with the .223.

I dont know of anyone that uses 9mm AR's. They carry HK MP5's 9mm and they are starting to replace those with .223AR's. There are a lot of studies concerning over penetration and from what ive read in the past .223 is a good round and does not penetrate as much as pistol cal rounds.

gotta disagree with ya there Dave. Compared to our 20" 223's, our 16" 9mm carbines have next to no recoil.

I've read the "223 is better" articles as well.
Regarding muzzle velocity..out of a 16" barrel our 147 gr hp's are doing around 1200 fps.
I've said it before and I'll say it forever..IMHO 9mm carbines are nothing but a good training aide to get people comfortable with the ar platform.
For a duty long gun they are at the bottom of the list.

Better yet. Buy a .22 conversion kit if someone needs training.

Unfortunately..the 9mm is our primary weapon.

We start newbie CO's off on the 9mm and then train them on the 223.
It's a good confidence booster for those that have never fired a gun before.
Once they are certified on all our weapons, depending on which prison they go to..they might never fire a 223 again..
