Speaking of SCBAs, just got back from a Call. A pump fire. The Unit Operators had it out and blocked in before we arrived on scene......all dressed up and nothing to play with.

Scott 4500 psi 30 min carbon or kevlar cylinders with integrated pass. Some have buddy breathers but most don't. The ones coming on our new trucks have the rit connection, buddy breathers and the hud. Supposedly all of our older scbas are going to be retrofitted will all the newer bells and whistles.

This is what we have. HUD needs a second battery, and is more hype than value. We switched from MSA to Scott in 1996 and havent looked back. The new bottles are a little lighter than the first generation wrapped ones..... which is always nice. We are one of two departments in the county that operate 4500 packs. Interspiro users, have you been following the issues about pack to bottle seal problems? |

We have MSA W/ HUD and RIT pack. I prefer the Scotts though. I think it depends on what you train with. Other guys who went through a different Standards school used MSA and hate Scott. I started off w/ Scott.
I find the MSA mask to be bottom heavy and very uncomfortable and the HUD doesn't work most of the time. And the mask is right size. That is the excuse the guys give at work. "Well your mask just isn't fitted properly."  Oh yeah, I hate that rail system they have to clip the regulator in. Especially when you are working in the dark. And the PASS device button should be alot bigger like on Scotts. I would hate to be caught in an "oh shit" situation and fumble w/ that buttonPS. Does anybody know where I can get a voice amplifier for MSA? |

My dept has new (<1yr) MSA packs and we absolutely love them. We have the 4500 psi 45 min bottles on them.
Before that we used older Scott 2.2 packs. |

Yes. We have the speaker unit and the HUD. I seldom use the HUD. It's hard to see in my opinion. I just look at the gauge. Oh, 30 minute packs is what we got.

Drager air boss with the HUD and 45 min bottles started using 45 min bottles when we lost two guys.
like them alot but mask fog up easy when your wearing them and not plugged in because the LDV hole is kinda small. The HUD in my opinon is useless I guess Im just use to the low air whistle |

We use Scott 4500's as well. No amplifiers on ours. Our Chief says he's working to reslove that problem.

A little of both. Regulator on the belt by the buckle..apparently they are near or at the end of their service life. No doubt it will be a couple of years before they are replaced..

+1 on the Scott 50. Ours have all the bells and whistles, HUD, RIT hook up, integrated pass, lightweight bottles. Like the HUD gives you a rough idea as to where your at in regards to air and air consumption. You really do need to work with it a bunch to make it second nature though. Need to know where abouts what pressures the lights go out.

We are using new MSA with the HUD, voice boxes and RIT packs & 45 min carbon fiber bottles. The HUD seems to eat batteries, but works just fine for us & the regulator rail can be a pain, but it's nice to hang the regulator there so it's close by. Like them way better than the old SurvivAir packs they replaced.

Officers and those that were fill-ins were supplied with voice amps here until the grant process was established. Most of us bought our own long before this took place...sucked but you do what you have to sometimes. So those of us that bought them have backups when the dept issued units get wet. While on topic, Id like to see Scott design a better mount than the av2000/av3000 disaster they came up with. |

I mean, Interspiro. Total crap in my opinion. I'd rather have an MSA or ISI any day of the week. Oh yeah, and our Chief was determined that we have in-mask integrated communications (speaker & microphone). That was a total waste of tax payer's money. We since received an official order to remove them from all SCBA's. |

Went with the MSA Firehawk last year. Integrated PASS, Extend-Air, RIC, HUD, etc...
So far we have no serious issues with these, although having to change the batteries in the PASS, HUD reciever and transmitter, and voice amplifier is a pain in the ass. |

Scott packs with integrated pass alarm and fiberglass wrapped 30 mintute bottles. I'm lucky to get 15-20 minutes out of it. I'm pushing for the larger 45 minute bottles but all of the rigs would need new seat mounts for the larger bottle.

Well striker, got all my schooling to be wither a lawyer or LEO, and decided the adrenaline rush was bigger in the pa.tch. (pay is nice too) Might go i n for LEO later on, have to see what life holds for me and mine, there is talk of AB going to a Provincial Force..... not sure if that is good nor not, just new |

That will put a damper on the RCMP hiring boom. I was going to apply with them but I don't want to pack up my family and move to God knows where. So I'm stuck where I'm at, which isn't to bad anyway. A hell of a lot less paper work for sure!

We upgraded a few years ago from MSA Ultralight 2200's to the MSA's with the ICM/PASS and MMR's (Millenium?). HUD's on the masks.
Like 'em, but for some reason our (then) Chief decided to spec them out as 2200 Psi rigs, instead of going to 3k. Same pack, same bottle, different pressure relief spring in the Quickfill port. And we got 'em with a grant so it's not like we had to pay for the extra 800 pounds of air...

Volly: MSA Firehawks...... MMR, HUD Voice Amp. We've only had them about eight months..... Only problem we've had is leaks on the bottles, right around the gauge area..... Anyone else having this problem?  Sucks to put a pack on only to find out it's empty....
