From one of his co-workers, it happened around 1330 hours.  Trooper with 10 years on the job responded to a bank alarm in a town near Binghamton, NY (details real sketchy at this time).  From this source, the trooper pulled into the parking lot at the same time the BG was running out the door with a bag of money and a gun.
Not sure if the trooper had even gotten out of his cruiser, but he was immediately engaged, fired upon, and sadly died of his wounds.  RIP brother.  May swift justice meet quickly with the POS assailant.  Second cop in NY to die in as many days....

i like to think that i say pretty well informed by watching the news regularly but i never hear much about officer deaths on cnn or fox(or maybe i dont notice) but since ive been visiting the LE part of this site in the last week or so it seems like officers are getting shot or stabbed daily and i only hear about it here. Isnt this the kind of thing that should draw national attention, even if just for a few moments on the evening news. Or are they too busy talking about dick cheny shooting someone and which movie star is getting divorced? Additionally im wondering if the robber was using a rifle or pistol, if he had body armor, ect. It seems like these turd bag robbers and murderers are getting more sophisticated or at least more effecient. Id also love to know what went throught his mind that made him think he was going to have a fighting chance against 20 marshalls.

This is a sad story but ones like these should be broadcast across the nation just to let monsters like this know that you cant win in a direct gunbattle against law enforcement, even if you succeed in killing one you just buy yourself time untill you evenually get your ass whooped. It really amazes me that people do things like this, i cant understand why people rob jewerly stores. There is a cash incentive to it, but why would you kill a cop in the process if it wouldnt aid you in your immediate escape?

Is anyone from here going to Tpr. Sperr's funeral in Rochester tomorrow?  Me and about six of my co-workers will be heading out.   Man, I've been to way too many police funerals.
