Hello all,
I'm just wondering what the actual requirements your department has set for practice / training / qualification with your duty weapons and any other weapon systems you might have.

I am involved in a discussion on another board and I would like some info from the horse's mouth so to speak.

I was under the impression that most officers (company here is pretty much excluded since we are enthusiasts here) see their sidearm as a tool.  Not alot of 'gun guys' (or gals).  So they might not enjoy range time like most ARFcommers.

This person claimed weekly practice was mandated and there was a monthly 'performance evaluation'.

Thanks
Jake

Federal BOP ... unless on SORT ... no practice is mandated and qualification is once per year. BPT qualification (prisoner escort) is to an elevated standard. Very few officers are enthusiast, although in hunting areas, you will find some fine rifle shooters.    Stay safe

My agency requires yearly qualifications with the responsibilty falling on the officers to stay proficient, although, our firearms instructors are at the range twice a month so that we can shoot.
Who said the part about us being non gun guys. I think I;m offended....

My agency is yearly qualifications. The department strongly encourages us to practice with our weapons much more. We get 50 rounds a month from the department for self-initiated practice. Beyond many at the department shoot more. Also, firearms instructors are always available if we want to train with them.

Lots of gun guys at my department, and many still see it as a tool. It is only as good as how well I can use it.

We shoot 4 times a year here.  And I consider my duty weapons to be tools.
