Teen stabs officer with screwdriver

Minneapolis officer Daniel Horn was sitting in his squad car writing a traffic citation Monday morning when a teenager walked up and started stabbing him in an unprovoked attack, police said.

About 7 a.m., a 17-year-old boy "walked up, leaned into his car window and stabbed him with this screwdriver," Police Chief Bill McManus said.

Fortunately, Horn was wearing a protective Kevlar vest and the screwdriver didn't penetrate it, McManus said. He displayed the screwdriver, in a plastic bag, and the officer's shirt with a small rip in the left pocket where the tool had struck.

Horn, who has been on the force for 15 years, managed to trap the teen's arm in his steering wheel, disarm him and call for assistance, the chief said. The teen and a man who obstructed officers were arrested at the scene at 62nd Street and 2nd Avenue S. and may be charged with second-degree assault, Capt. Rich Stanek said.

McManus said when he visited Horn, who was checked at a hospital and released, Horn said he was glad he was able to control the teenager without shooting him, the chief said. He noted that during an attempted robbery last week, police shot and killed a suspect after he stabbed two officers in their legs.

He said such armed attacks on police are unusual.

He didn't shoot the kid because he didn't want to pick up all the chunks of brain out of his dash.

Just goes to show.   When you put on the uniform you become a target....  And people wonder why we don't mess around.

Yea, just like our guy that got blasted for no good reason when a young black man that was upset that the police could not save his brothers life called in on a fireworks complaint and then walked up to the officers passenger window and began shooting him.  

Neighbors came out and tried to assist the officer and shield him but the little fuck walked up on him in front of everyone and shot him to death.  Took his sidearm and took off.

Officer Morgan was shot and killed outside of the Roane County Courthouse while escorting two inmates from the Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex to a court appearance. The wife of one of the inmates had setup an ambush at the courthouse parking lot and confronted the three corrections officers with a shotgun. The woman opened fire on the officers, striking Officer Morgan three times.

The woman and her husband fled the scene in a vehicle, switched cars a short distance away, and remain at large. The inmate had served 2 years of a 35 year sentence for aggravated robbery and aggravated assault.

Officer Morgan was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he succumbed to his wounds.

Sergeant Stevenson and other officers had responded to a liquor store on North Central Avenue to investigate reports of an armed male who was acting strangely. The first officer on the scene was shot and wounded by the suspect. This officer took cover behind a car and returned fire as Sergeant Stevenson arrived at the scene. Sergeant Stevenson exited his patrol car and immediately engaged the suspect, firing eight shots before being shot.

Sergeant Graham was shot and killed in an ambush. The shooting occurred in front of his home, which is in a rural area near Van Buren, Missouri. The officer had just completed his shift and arrived at his home when he was ambushed in his driveway.

A suspect was charged with Sergeant Graham's murder on March 29, 2005. The suspect had been under investigation by Sergeant Graham for leaving the scene of a fatal accident on November 26, 2004.

Detective Young was shot and killed at a rental hall on West Mississippi Street. He and another officer were in uniform, working an off duty job at a private celebration, when a man approached both officers from behind and opened fire on them in an unprovoked attack. The shooting occurred at approximately 0100 hours as patrons were leaving as the event ended. Detective Young was killed and the second officer was wounded.

Sergeant McEntee was shot and killed after responding to complaints about fireworks being set off in an apartment complex on Alsobrook Street.

When he arrived at the scene he began speaking with a 13-year-old boy while still seated in his patrol car. A subject unrelated to the original call approached the patrol car from the passenger side and opened fire, striking Sergeant McEntee several times. His patrol car then traveled a short distance and crashed into a tree. The suspect approached the patrol car again and shot Sergeant McEntee several more times.

Officer Nels Niemi was shot and killed in an ambush attack while investigating a disturbance call on Doolittle Drive.

Officer Niemi responded to Doolittle Drive at 2300 hours. As Officer Niemi spoke to some of the residents, a man drove up to the scene and engaged Officer Niemi in conversation. Without warning, the man produced a handgun and shot Officer Niemi several times, killing him.


Anyone who wears a uniform and thinks they aren't a target is kidding themselves.  Stay Safe.
