Hey all.  I just got the good news that I'm going to Patrol Rifle Instructor School (the 40 hr full tilt course at Sacramento County) in mid November.  The only catch is, I have to provide my own 5.56 ammo.  I, like most cops, am POOR right now.

Any clues on where to get reliable ammo (I need 800 rds) at the absolute lowest price would be mucho appriciated.

Thanks guys, and I hope everyone is having fun at Gunstock.

How's 199 shipped for 1000 rounds of either Winchester 3131a or Lakecity XM193?

www.ammoman.com

(or if you're really tapped you could go with the Wolf for 125/1000 shipped)

About the cheapest is Wolf.... I've heard many folks say it is dirty and stinks... but reliable.

Wolf ammo does stink, is very dirty, but 100% reliable in my AR. I'd use it in a course if I couldn't afford any better.

Contact Ultramax Ammunition. Don't have their prices in front of me now, but they include shipping. Talk to Launa, she's the LE Sales Rep.

I think you'd be laughed off the range if you showed up with Wolf ammo. There's nothing wrong with using it as plinking stuff, but for police work, the minimum should be Xm193 or Q3131A.

+1

Don't show up for training with sub quality ammo or firearms.

If you have to use wolf for the range do it sometimes you have to do what you got to do to get training.

Outdoor Marksman has Federal XM193 for $170/1000rds. Shipping is $12-$20 depending on where you live. They also have Olympic M193 for $130/1000rds., but I have no experience with that ammo. I can vouch for the Federal. Good luck.

As cheap as I am, I have to agree....Wolf is nothing but trouble.  Besides, this is a Department weapon.  Not a snob or anything, but no Wolf allowed on any serious police range in this state as far as I know.

A brother just hooked me up with a "scholorship".  I won't embarass him, but he truly helped a buddy out!  I will not forget, and I will pass it on.  Thank you

Besides having twice the ammo they suggest I would also suggest a spare weapon if you can get one, set up the same as yours. If your gun goes down you won't have to mess around all day trying to get yours back running again. You won't miss any of the class. I alway bring a spare weapon to any school, just a thought.

Deputy Gadget,

Sounds like wise advise.  I will try to make that happen.  Thanks
