Donuts, you left out donuts
I don't know, might be kind of fun, I was looking at it before I went to law school. Around here there is a pretty wide variation in pay, some departments pay horribly and some are okay. I remember my buddies who did it getting stuck with a lot of crappy shift work in the beginning but now that a lot of them are getting towards retirement age they seem to have enjoyed it overall.
You used to be able to sneak into movies and play golf for free and sometimes get out of speeding tickets, I don't know if that's still true.
Edit- I was just thikning about this-you know sometimes you save people (one of my buddy's saved a woman from a nut who was about to kill her earlier this year
) but in my small town I'd bet they deal with the same 300 people (out of 17000) probably 80% of the time. It's the small class of just plain scumbags who cause 80% of the trouble (except for DWIs). I might get tired dealing with the same idiots day in and day out-also some departments where everyone gets along seem cool, but if there are factions within the deptartment (as was the case here years ago) then I think it's a pretty unpleasant working environment, though I suppose any job can be like that
