I’m driving down to Florida out of Colorado and get to Saint Louis a few weeks ago.  The speed limit is 45 due to all the construction and the roads are all screwed up.  With the cruse control set on 45, my truck is averaging 45 to 50 due to the hills in town. Mean while, cars are blowing past me at Mach 2, and I just trying to get the hell out of their way.  Next thing I know, I have one of the cities finest, all most on by bumper.  As he pulls in close, it breaks the wind off my tailgate and the truck jumped up to 55, due to his car breaking the wind drag. So I hit the cruse control and turn it off, but due to the slight hill, and the officer all most on my bumper, I don’t want to go for the brake and give him a scare.  Well he pulls me over and we talk for a few minutes after I finally get the passage window down, (I had opened the drivers window and turned the truck off and was waiting for him to come up to the driver’s window).  Mean while, as I am talking to him, I look in the rear view mirror and see that now there are three officers behind my truck (red Dodge with dark factory tinted window). After the initial contact with me, they all seem to calm down, which broke the tension.

All and all, the stop turn out well and I had a good time talking with the officer regarding my trip and the long drive.  I am guessing that the reason that I got pulled over was not so much for speeding, If nothing else, it would be for obstructing traffic, due to me trying to hold the speed limit and getting lapped by everyone else.  My guess is that I was just a drug stop and once the officer got to the truck and talked to me, he found that this was not the case. Here in Colorado, a shinny red Dodge truck with tinted windows is not uncommon, but considering my destination, out of state plates and the way I had my truck pack, including a rubber mate cooler that I use to keep my clothing dry in the back of the bed, the truck just stood out way to much there.

I didn’t get his name, but am happy to say that I was treated with respect and to pass on the thanks to the Saint Louis police force for doing their job, but not forgetting the we are all the same, with a kind word going a long way.

P.S. To add, I was only given a warning, and that was the only time I was stopped, even going down the Florida coast (which is where I figured I would be pulled over). I must have been the sun shining off my bald spot that Florida officers caught, and the Saint Louis officer missed.
