BOSTON -- Two Boston police officers shot and wounded while responding to a disturbance in the city's Dorchester section are recovering this morning.

A suspect, 20-year-old Jermaine Jabar Berry, who was also shot, has been placed under arrest. He's in critical condition with a shoulder wound, and is under guard in an unnamed hospital.

The shootings at about 5:45 this morning were at 76 Radcliffe Street, where the officers had been dispatched because of complaints about a domestic disturbance.

The two officers were shot in the lower torso. Both went into surgery, one at Boston Medical Center and the other at Brigham and Women's. One is listed in guarded condition, the other in serious condition.

Police Commissioner Paul Evans said at a news conference this morning that the police feel very lucky that the officers were not killed.

Evans released few details, saying that it would be irresponsible to discuss specifics when the investigation is preliminary. (AP)
