I have found myself named chief of a small, rural fire dept that has just been started. We are in serious need of some good useable, yet cheap gear. We have most of the major stuff but we are lacking in helmets, boots, hoods and gloves. Does anyone know of any company that sells either used or factory second gear at good prices? Our funding is almost non-existent and at this time we simply can't afford brand new gear from major suppliers. I figure that as long as the used gear is in good shape it will help us get started yet still keep the men safe. Also, we would love to scoop up a good deal on new gear with slight blemishes, etc that is still sound but could be had for good prices.

Any links, phone numbers or company names will be greatly appreciated. I have searched the net but haven't been able to come up with much so far. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Charging Handle

check ebay and military surplus stores. I got my bunker pants at a surplus for 15.00. Of course i dont go into burning buildings just investigate them after they are out.

Around here, surrounding departments are good at helping a new department get set up. Also, check into Federal, State, and even Local grants or matching funds.....

check with larger fire depts. Many give away old bunker gear some of it in good condition,
much the way pd's giveaway out of date vests.
