I received a call from my backround investigator today, and she told me to quit my current job. I start the academy June 3rd!

Congrats!!!!
Let me be the first to say that, and welcome to the family. After all, this forum is not called the Brothers if the Shield for nothing!! Ask all the questions you want. Here is the first bit of advise: Keep mouth shut and ears open in Basic!!(and study HARD) One of the old timers here told me that 7 years ago, it got me though ok. Basic was harder then college, mentally and physically.

OK rookie...ooops RECRUIT! Congrats!
Start running and doing some push ups(if you haven't already!), you'll be doing lots of it.

Congrats Adam. I'll offer the same advice my dad(a retired captain) gave me when I joined the force ten years ago.
1)Treat everyone you have contact with the same way you would want a member of your family treated if the situation was reversed.
2)Everyone is equal in the eyes of the law
3)You have taken on the mantle of protector of the community. Do not forget that you are still a member of that community
4)If he comes at you with a knife, come at him with a gun. If he puts one of your men in the hospital, put one of his in the morgue...wait that wasn't dad, that was Sean Connery :)

Congrats!

My friend just got off probation a few months ago. Start doing a lot of running if you haven't already. They run A LOT in the academy. Besides regular runs around the hills, they sprint 1/4 mile and wrestle with suspect and stuff like that, couple of people in his class were sucking wind. The new facility is really nice...and the instructors snipe at you with paint ball guns! Makes you think about cover and concealment!

i guess you didnt tell them about all those ILLEGAL ASSUALT WEAPONS you Own [:D] ...JK

im sure ill be seeing you and the class running down my street at 7am and yelling a cadence, i HATE that it always wakes me up.
i hope you will be running in the front of the pack and not in the back with the 5'2" chubby females who cant keep up and the squad car has to go back and pick them up and bring up to speed with the rest of the class.
