Just got to word that I've been accepted into the fire academy for this summer...in Utah. Good news is that they hold class at night so as to not kill anyone with heat stroke.

I have some question about what gear to buy. I've been instructed that I need to have duty boots (black, polishable, safety toe and steel shank), fire boots, gloves, and hood. If I can get stuff I can continue using once I have a real job that would be awesome. I love Danner for boots but I haven't been able to find any with a steel shank in them. As far as the fire boots (the rubber ones for use in fires) go I haven't a clue what is good and what is junk. Same goes for the hoods & gloves. Any suggestions?
