A few questions for all the LEO's out there.
1.What is your duty sidearm? 2.What does your department let you carry? |
|
1. Sig Sauer 229 .40caliber
2. If you can qualify on it, you can carry. Single Actions, Double Actios, Revolvers, Shotguns, Rifles, etc... However my department issues the Sig Sauer 229 as a standard duty weapon. Virtually all other handguns can be qualifired on for off duty and/ or back up use. |
|
1) Glock model 22 .40s&w
2) DA 9mm, .40s&w, or .357 mag revolver Current Department issue weapon = Glock 22 |
|
Cool. I'm waiting for an academy date for the LAPD. I know that they issue Beretas, but I was wondering if I would be able to carry my Glock 19 if I wanted to.
What department do you work for 2nd marine Div., LAcop? |
|
SIG P229.
You must carry the P229 in uniform. Plainclothes, off-duty and back-up guns can be anything .38 and up you can qualify on. They also issue P239s to plainclothes officers, although I never bothered to get one. I still carry the P229, and sometimes my Glock 30. |
|
1. Glock 31c 357 sig
2. thats the only handgun for duty, anything you can qual with for backup 3. ar and shotgun |
|
1. H&K USP 40
2. Any automatic pistol of 9mm parabellum or larger caliber, any revolver of .38 spl or larger caliber (subject to approval by the Sheriff). Since we purchase our own sidearms, you see a variety of handguns among the 50-odd full and part-time deputies. There are more Glocks than any other single make. The Sheriff himself and a few others carry 1911's. One other guy uses an H&K. |
|
All Deputies are issued a Glock 22 or 23. Those that are issued a 22 also are issued a 27 for off duty use. The 27 is not required and we can carry almost anything as a back up or off duty gun. I have and use a Kel tec P-32, S&W 442, Kahr , as well as the Glock 23 issued.

Quoted: Cool. I'm waiting for an academy date for the LAPD. I know that they issue Beretas, but I was wondering if I would be able to carry my Glock 19 if I wanted to. Sorry 556, but no Glock...not even off duty. Beretta 92FS until graduation. Then you can switch to S&W (buy your own-limited authorized models)in 9mm if you like. If you want a .45cal, you have to sign up for, and complete "45-school". Then your choices will still be (buy your own-limited authorized models) Beretta and S&W. Good luck. |
|
Our Dept you can carry any thing you want as long as it is a S&W 9mm. Issue is one of the new 5903 TSW. I carry a 6906 off duty and at times I have a S&W 332 .

Limited to three. These are your duty, backup, and off duty weapons. All weapons are officer purchase from the approved list. Calibers must be greater than .380, no 38 Supers, 357 Sigs, or 10mm. Ammunition must be Gold Dot.
Duty: Beretta 92 Backup: S@W 3914 in shoulder holster inside shirt. Off duty: Colt Commander in .45ACP. Just recently switched, Our chief carries a .45 and authorized them when he took over. I'm seriously considering a 1911A1 pattern for a duty sidearm. |

We can carry anything from a major manufacturer over .38 cal. I'm carrying a SIG 229 in .357 at the moment. In the car I've got a Remmy 1187P and one of my SWAT weapons (either MP5 or M16A2 depending on my mood). We are soon to have pepperball guns and Remmy 870's with less lethal munitions in the cars , also.

Department issue is the Glock 22 .40, in fact just got a new one yesterday.
Back up is limited to .40 and below of which if you can qualify with it you can carry it. I use the 870 12Ga, we are getting the FN's soon. Also, I think it's in the works for patrol officers to qualify with and carry their own "pistol cal" carbine. I think I will get a .40 upper for my Bushmaster if this happens. |
