Ok all is set for me to foray into the Sand box next week. While I was being briefed
we were informed that the Internet is monitored and our emails censored. Absolutely no
ARF for 10 days. Kiddlings are staying with some dear friends of mine for the duration and email was going to be mode of communication.
I have never been away from them for this long or out of communication and honestly this is flying all over my mommy sensibilities. Actually making me sick to my stomach.
Never  never  never take for granted the freedom we have here!
I am ready to eject.

Good luck. It won't be as bad as you think. I hope it flies by for you. I'd trade places with you if I could. Best of luck.

Thanks

This job makes me want to eat bad carbs

Business. 1 day in Saudi and a 54 hour stint in Nigeria. The rest in Qatar.
I have been dreading it because the scope and nature of the work will require working around the clock.  Some of the entities I have to interface with are less than female user friendly etc.
I have put if off for about 6 weeks. Now I gotta go. BLAH,,,,

Nigeria is another animal all together. This area is a hot zone. Troops get fired on daily and they have bunkers where I have to go. Short stay there no communications except via satellite.

With all the email scamming I'm surprised they have time to pull a trigger.

Be careful.

After today I think I need to take you too. I will carry in Nigeria. I know how to take care of myself. I have a friend who is a Colonel here and he told me if I get kidnapped
it won't take but  15mins for them to figure out it was a mistake and they will pay the US to take me back.

I am a little scared.

Qatar isn't actually that bad for Westerners.

If in Doha, go to the City Centre mall.  European women can be seen not wearing Islamic garb walking around by themselves.

If you want a drink you'll have to get one at one of the Westen hotels.

Doha is trying its best to create an environment as conducive as possible; trying to follow Dubai and Bahrain.

I will come bakc with stories I know. And I will tell any one that messes wtih me I am hooked up here!!!

But prayers are very welcomed as well.

You want dull.  Try doing exec protec.  Especially when the idiot you're "protectiong" has no legit threats and you're only there because he thinks it's prestigious to have a body guard, you're sorda being shown off.  They'll sit there and lie about your qualifications to brag to their buddies.  And in a away that cuts you off from ever working for their buddies, because you have to have a rep as quiet no matter what.

When the other guys show interest in hiring you, you can't lie, but if you tell the truth, you just busted their buddy.  And they all lie

It's the most boring job on the planet I think.  Unless their is a legit threat.  I seriously doubt SS guys are that bored.  I've known one that was the most professional operator I've ever known in my life, and I know several.  Not because he was necessarily the best, but because he was that damn intense 24/7  The man was unable to relax and have a good time.  He was to busy scanning for threats the entire time.  Some people here will say "I do that too" no you don't  Not like this guy.  I mean 4 times out of 5 when he was attempting to take a drink out of his glass of water, it wouldn't make it to his mouth because something would catch his eye

Plus, you only get to eat when they are either asleep or in private meetings they don't want you in(but you do have to guard the door so hope someone can bring you something) or when you're driving.  You need high dollar suits, tailore'd so as not show any bulges, you need to coordinate ahead of time with any localities you may be visiting to get approval to carry in unapproved places (not easy usually) and all sorts of other problems

I'm going to shut up now

Short trip!

Made it to the staging  area and that was it, About twenty of the original team get to go to Nigeria which is where we were supposed to go. There has been an increase in violent activity this week and last. We are just delayed for now. We sent essential people ONLY and all are fresh outs from the military.

Never been so relieved. they called this at the 11th hour literally. Flight was suppose to leave at 2100 this eveining.

I don't do mortars.

It is one thing to be behind a gun firing at paper targets and steel, and another to have live rounds whizzing past your ears and hearing mortar rounds close up ( I DID NOT GET THAT FAR THANK GOD). I can't tell you how much respect I have for the armed forces. Or anyone who has to keep us safe.

I miss the midnight mortar showers at FOB Rustimiyah.  You know you've been there too long when you hear them, know they're landing on the other side of the post, roll over and go back to sleep.
