I carry a 1911. I honestly wish I had something smaller but I love the .45 cal and I am very proficient with it.

 My babies...Colt 1911 Gov model, 9mm and a .45 Gold Cup, both Series 70. I also have a Commander, but she's pretty rough around the edges.

LdyGunner is--she's an instructor too. Many ladies have chosen 1911's as a result of her mentoring them. I don't know how often she comes to the Women Shooters forum though, so she may not see this thread.

I love girls that crush stereotypes.....you would expect to see a woman with a little Barreta tomcat or Taurus .22 or something, cuz they're wimpy girly-girls...oh yeah, if you beleive that....you're a friggin idiot
The future Mrs Cowboy (BeautifulStranger) is better with my .45 than I am and I'm proud of her for it. I know she is getting a .380 when she turns 21 in a few weeks, but I'm already thinking about when she gets ready for a .45....and she will....the 45-fu is strong in her.... I can sence it You ladies that do carry a 1911, why did it first appeal to you? |

What is there not to love? The 1911 is a classic, it has elegant lines, and was truly an engineering marvel for it's time and for today. It is also very well balanced. Not to mention, a lot of guys think that women can't shoot a 1911, because .45 is too strong, but the characteristics of the .45 recoil often make it as easy if not easier to control that some 9mm pistols I know. Also, the grip on a 1911 single stack is great for people with smaller hands, especially with a short trigger - so it is a good choice for many women. We generally start out our beginners with .22's then we move them up to 9mm and .38, and then the 1911's - you should see the smiles break out on most of them when they shoot the 1911 - most of them don't go back. Not to mention, the 1911 is just downright sexy .Also, my grandmother actually has a 1911 - I've wanted one since I was a little girl. |

I like the way they feel in my hand. I like the weight, the lines, the overall beauty of the gun. I like the way it feels when fired. It's fluid, unlike some other handguns. Lady hit it when she said the 1911 is downright sexy. I agree. I wouldn't give up any of mine for all the money in the world. |

because it feels natural, from the fit in my hand to the draw, aim and trigger pull. If it doesn't feel natural, how accurate really are you going to be with it? That and they just look damn sexy. |
