I want to ask the ladies of Arfcom a question..... My wife has shot very little, but was invited to a defensive shooting class this weekend. They are shooting 200+ rounds. The problem is, I bought her a S&W Airweight .38 that is not fun to shoot a lot , especially to a novice shooter. Should I send her with a .22 or her .38? Hi! My advice to you is to give her the .22lr. This is a practice and even tho she must get used to the recoil of the weapon she will use for defense, a .22lr will make her more comfortable and focus in the class. There will be a lot of new information, and shooting .22lr (low recoil) she will pay more attention to the instructor and will be less concern about recoil, pain in her hand, etc. Hope she enjoys the class!!

I would ask the instructor if they prefer her to have one or the other. If he/she says it doesn't matter I would make her take both with the intent to use the .38. I always stand by you should train with what your going to carry/use.

Have her sell the gun and get something different. Or see if the instructor has any rentals...Or I'm guessing you shoot something..let her take that. The other two choices suck.

If she can't shoot 200rds in one day through it.. it's not the gun for her. If it's a defensive handgun course she should train with what she carries. |

She ended up taking my Sig P238. She loved it and now wants her own (the rainbow version
 ).

How do you find your Sig? I was able to shoot one a few weeks ago and it jammed about every third round. It WAS in it's break in period tho. |

It wasn't mine. It belonged to a student of mine. It is now past the break in period and still stovepiping, doublefeeding and failing to go into battery. Her husband won't let her send it back, says that's normal. Apparently he's never owned a quality firearm before. |
